What is the Informative Post?

Creator of the Informative Post

Let me introduce myself first. My name is Douglas Brown, and I created the Informative Post site back in Oct '07. I graduated from Tri-State University (Angola, IN), in May 2006, with a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Engineering. From there I got a job writing C, and C++ code apps for windows and microcontroller environments. After my 9-5 every night I spent researching HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, SEO, SEM, and all the other web related topics. I hardly consider myself a web guru, however, I am fairly confident that I know my way "around the block."

After about 6 months, the company noticed the potential that I had with web design and development and so they asked me to take over the project of re-designing and re-developing the company's site. So now currently I am still working with the company I started with, but my role increased from a Software Engineer, to a Webmaster and Software Engineer.

During the mornings before work, afternoons after work, and weekends I have been investing most of my time into the Informative Post. I have worked on other website projects in the past, however, Informative Post is incredibly fun to work on simply because of the awesome community that is being built before my eyes. The community is always giving me inspiration and new innovative ideas for the site.

The plans I have for myself involve getting my Zend PHP5 Certification, and getting the opportunity to quit my "Nine to Five" and invest all my time one day into the Informative Post. If any of you reading this currently have any tips you can throw my way about the Zend Certification exam, it would be greatly appreciated. ;) I'll keep you all updated how that goes.

How the Site was Started

Now let me give you a little background information about the Informative Post. I started it back in October of 2007. The reason for me starting it was because I wanted to start blogging. So I fired up a Wordpress blog, and started to blog about a few topics that caught my fancy. Then a month later, few people signed up for my RSS feed, or even visited the site.

I understand that a lot of the largely aclaimed bloggers out there have been blogging for years, and it takes years of creative content before you could ever even hope to be an infuential blogger. In this web era it is becoming even more difficult to step into the blogging arena, mainly because their are so many options to choose from and a lot of it is crap. So I went looking all over the net for a site that could help me establish that I am not a spammer, and that I do have a lot to offer to the community.

I did find sites like, BlogCatelog, MyBlogLog, and other social sites. These weren't really what I was looking for, because I wanted something that could also help build my link equity for my own site. I wasted so much time looking for the perfect site/network to help launch my blogism/journalism career that I just became overly frustrated with the lack thereof. From there, website evolution took it's course.

Started as a Blog: Like I mentioned above, this all started as a blog. As time went on, I felt I wasn't posting enough to the blog, so I started paying some people to guest post. Some of the articles were great, and some of them were horrible, so I started focusing on paying the authors more for the performance of the article rather than the article itself. This helped increase the amount of quality articles being published and weeding out a few of the authors who just rehashed old articles and the like because those articles didn't perform as well.

Grew into a User Generated Content Site: As more and more authors begain adding their content to the site, I have started spending more time reviewing articles and responding to members questions, and less time writing my own. So now I am just blogging about site updates and thngs like that. Every now and then I add in my own two cents about a particular subject too.

What is the Informative Post?

Ok, now I feel more confident answering this question. The Informative Post is a user generated content site. The site is full of reviews, news, how-tos and so much more that are written by paid authors. The Informative Post's community of authors and readers is my main inspiration to keep working diligently to provide you all the most current tools and features on the web today.

If you just became a member of this site, you will notice quickly that you are not just another member of another social site. You are part of a family of authors who are all willing to help, communicate, and contribute to the community. A lot of other user generated content networks out their do not appreciate their authors and readers like I do. You will notice that when you submit questions and/or concerns to me, your query takes the highest priority. It's the authors of this site that make it what it is.

Where the Informative Post is Planning to Go?

Grow the Community: Realizing the great community that the Informative Post is starting to grow into, I plan on trying to connect that community with each other more efficiently. Since the site started, I have added a forum and author pages to allow authors to express ideas and any other concerns with eachother. In the future, I hope to grasp on to new and more efficent ways for the community to stay connected with eachother.

Grow the Brand: In effort to help the site and it's authors, I want to increase the Informative Post's brand in the future. Because the site is relatively new(1st launched in Oct'07), and not many people are aware of the Informative Post and it's services, so it is very important to me to find all the other bloggers/authors out their who are scouring the web trying to find that perfect site to launch their own career like I once was.

Grow the Informative Post Advertising Model: As most of you know, the more Informative Post can make from it's advertisers, the more money the authors will make in return. So in the future I am hoping to find some great advertisers willing to help the site and it's authors. I am also open in looking into new advertising models and your suggestions.

In Conclusion

As you can probably tell, I see a very bright future for the Informative Post. With the incredibly tallented authors that are already submitting content to us, along with the powerful bloggers I hope will be joining in the future it is very exciting for me to be heading the way, and providing these authors with the tools they need to reach the broad spectum of our readers.

As most of the current members already know, I'm always willing to read and listen to your suggestions on features and/or tools that you would like to see on the site. Your comments carry serious weight when it comes to influencing the decisions and direction of the Informative Post. This site is community driven, and I could not imagine a better community in the driver's seat.
