Barack Obama’s Democratic National Committee Chair Selection

The speculation over all the future appointments that Barack Obama will make continues to grow. Political appointments unfortunately are something that President-elect Barack Obama will have. The famous or infamous Karl Rove’s official title in the White House was as an adviser of political affairs. Karl Rove is currently splitting his time at Fox News and working again at the White House part time to develop a legacy strategy for George W. Bush for those who are curious as to what Karl Rove is doing nowadays. George W. Bush will likely have to leave it up to historians and his official biographer and Fox News/Weekly Standard employee Fred Barnes as to what his actual legacy will be.

Commentators have speculated as to how much of a “political instinct” Barack Obama truly has. Some will have to wait in making their full determination on that issue by seeing who Barack Obama chooses to be the chair of the Democratic National Committee. For those of you who are not sure what the chair of the Democratic National Committee does they are the main spokesperson and fundraising arm of the Democratic. The most recent chair of the Democratic National Committee has been former Vermont Governor Howard Dean. Howard Dean will be leaving the Democratic National Committee in early 2009.

Usually when discussing who is going to be the chair person of the Democratic National Committee you were talking about two people. During the time that President Bill Clinton spent in the White House he selected people like Don Fowler to be the fundraising arm of the party. While Senator Chris Dodd of Connecticut was the public face and spokesman for the Democratic National Committee; Don Fowler had served as the chairman of the South Carolina Democratic Party and was a businessman in the information technology sector. During the time that Howard Dean has served as chairman of the Democratic National Committee he has handled both the fundraising and the network television appearances and speaking engagements.

There were several fundraising scandals during the Bill Clinton era at the Democratic National Committee. There were several scandals where the Federal Bureau of Investigation tracked down some shady donors to the Democratic National Committee. They were tracked down by federal investigators because of some questionable international business practices. Hopefully whoever Barack Obama Okays as chair of the Democratic National Committee will not end up having the Federal Bureau of Investigation questioning their fundraising methods.

Politico reports that Barack Obama is currently considering his aide Paul Tewes for the job at the Democratic National Committee. Donna Brazile, a current CNN employee and the chairwoman of Al Gore’s 2000 Presidential bid is also under consideration.
