Battling Out Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a cancer that begins in the prostate, which is part of the male’s reproductive system. It mainly controls muscle growth and development, along with hair growth seen in men. The prostate is filled with tons of tiny gland that are ultra sensitive to stimulation; they also produce a percentage of the fluid seen in semen.  Early symptoms are hard to diagnose while some other warning signs are painful urination and difficult ejaculating. Bone pain is not an uncommon symptom either, as well as a compressed spinal cord. A terrifying fact is that thousands of individuals are never diagnosed with it, even while it is killing them. Age is the primary risk factor, with the majority of men diagnosed being around 70 years old.

A common method to help prevent prostate cancer is through masturbation. Men, who masturbate more often, are significantly less likely to develop prostate cancer. There is a wealth of information on the web related to prostate cancer and treatments, and is a growing concern for men in the modern days. In underdeveloped countries prostate cancer is much greater. These countries generally have a diet high in red meat and longer life expectancies than American citizens, which brings us back to age being a major factor in whether or not you get prostate cancer.

Natural ways for preventing prostate cancer are easy and cheap; many include vitamins such as Vitamin D, Vitamin E, and more commonly known, Lycopene. Fermented soybeans are also known to help aid in prevention of prostate cancer. With current technological advances in cancer treatments, there are many new blood tests and therapies that are being tested. These show promising bits of information in the search for a cure. More often than not, prostate cancer is not the cause of death. Chemo and other treatments have side effects that cause death. These are vigorously being researched to prevent the treatments from killing the individual.

Throughout history prostate cancer hasn’t had a great amount of exposure. It was only truly discovered in 1853. It was once deemed as rare. Radiation therapy was the most common form of therapy, until it became known for its adverse side effects. Treatment choices are difficult choices to make. Older men are more likely to be either, overly sensitive to the treatment, or not respond to it well.

Rectal examinations are crucial for at-risk men. Having a trained individual insert a lubricated finger to inspect the prostate is an important procedure. Yearly exams are quite beneficial for the prevention of advanced prostate cancer. However, it does not prevent DEATHS; the exams only give early warning signs or diagnosis.

Surgery is often used as either a last option, or a first option. It is commonly used early into the cancer development, to prevent spreading. It is only used last if the patient has not responded to radiation or other treatments that are available to him.

One of my specialties is medical writing, and cancer is one of my "pet" topics, if you will. The way that cancer develops makes it impossible for any of us to know we are diseased in the early stages. Prevention is so important! Men are especially reluctant to see a physician, but as your statistics show, routine care should be part of your life.

The prostate gland has nothing to do with muscle growth and development, nor growth of hair in men. It's only purpose is to supply the major portion of fluid in the semen to help sperm survive the tenacious journey to an egg. I think you have confused the prostate with the testicles.

Fred is right, just provides the fluid to make the ejaculate.
Other test that can be done is a blood test called PSA, which is not very reliable, giving many false positives and negatives, this blood test should not be performed within 24 hours of the rectal examination or sex, as it can then give an inaccurate result. Interesting article. Shame that men generally do not visit their physicians to have general health checks.
Also, very important for Well Men situation is the advice to check testicles once a month between ages of 15 and 50, as these are the prime ages of developing testicular cancers. Many men are reluctant to do this, but it is as necessary as all women checking their breasts once a month.
