Christian Siriano Moves on From Project Runway

Reality television can really make a huge difference to a career, as Christian Siriano has discovered. For those that don't know, Christian Siriano was the winner of the fourth season of Project Runway.

Lets take a look at life before and life after Project Runway

Christian Siriano was raised in Maryland and was rejected by the Fashion Institute of Technology. Not being one to give up Siriano applied for and was accepted to study at the American InterContinental University on London, England.

It was during his senior year at the American InterContinental University that he began to intern at Vivienne Westwood and then at Alexander McQueen.

After successfully completing his studies in England Christian Siriano returned to the U.S. and settled in New York.

On his return to the States Siriano worked as a freelance make-up artist for Stila Cosmetics, held a brief intern position at Marc Jacobs and made bridal gowns for private clients.

Then came the fourth season of Project Runway, which would turn his world upside down.

Project Runway

Christian Siriano was the only contestant to win four of the challenges set for them, which helped, pave his way to the finals.

During which he won a spot to show a 12 piece final collection at the New York Fashion Week.

Victoria Beckham was a celebrity judge when the finals were aired on March 8th 2008 and she stated that Sirianos' collection was a 'breath of fresh air' adding that she would be 'honored to wear' any of his pieces.

The prize for winning Project Runways fourth season was a fashion spread in Elle Magazine, a 2008 Saturn Astra, and $100,000 with which to start his own label.

But, it did not end there.....Siriano also won the Fan Favorite award which is based on viewer votes. For this he added an extra $10,000 to his pot of winnings.

And Since

It is more than obvious that Hollywood loves Christian Siriano, he has worked non-stop since his winning of Project Runway.

He dressed Whoopi Goldberg for her evening of hosting the Tony Awards, he has appeared on Ugly Betty and there are rumors that he may be the one to create the couture collection for the upcoming film 'Eloise In Paris.'

April of this year saw our savvy young designer signing a contract to design a 15-piece collection for Puma and during May he designed virtual prom wear for Gaia Online's virtual prom.

Has his life style changed? Well, of course.

During Project Runway Siriano was living and working in a small one roomed apartment in the East Village today, according to The New York Sun, Siriano is living in a 1,400 sq ft loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

So for all that deride reality T.V. shows, here is one young man who has shown and continues to show that they can and indeed do play a part in boosting careers.

Look out for Christian Siriano's first collection for Bluefly, which should be available on websites from July23rd 2008.

It's great that he's still having so much success! Someone that works that hard deserves it.

I can only imagine how much winning would have done for Jay McCarrol and Chloe Dao if their prize package wasn't as restrictive. Christian got the car, the money, and his clothes on Bluefly.com, same as Jeffrey. Chloe and Jay had to accept their prize money under the condition that they receive mentorship from a retail outlet (Jay's for sure was Banana Republic, Chloe may have had a different store). Both turned down parts of their prize; Jay had to turn down the money because he refused the mentorship.

But I digress. It's great that Christian is doing so well. How else would a designer that young work his way up to this level of industry clout so soon?
