Billions of online people are estimated to be registered in online social networks. The reason for this statistics? There are actually lots of them. Friendster, Myspace, Multiply, there are actually lots of these social networking sites and are growing tremendously over the years. Still, although these sites are already aging, more and more people love them like wine.

First and foremost, online social networks provide an avenue for people to introduce themselves to the world. It is a place where they can be among people of all walks of life. In this social space, everyone is equal- there are no celebrities, millionaires, politicians etc. They may be identified but still, they have no dominion in these places unlike in the real world.

But of course, this can happen if you have lots of contacts- but spreading the word out is done through referrals or merely word-of-mouth.
