What makes a winner? Everyone has the potential of being a winner;
whether this will happen, depends on ourselves. However, it is hard work – cultivating the
right attitude, building the right relationships and developing self discipline
and motivation.
ATTITUDE
Confidence comes together with self
esteem. You will need these attributes
to face obstacles and take up new challenges in work and life. When others comment on your inability to
succeed, or criticize your faults, how
do you feel? Do you see these as unfair
criticisms or a challenge to improve yourself and spur you onto greater
heights? Remember that if you have a
poor opinion of yourself, so will others.
Your appearance is an indication of your confidence. Confident people dress well (not necessarily expensively); they look well groomed - clean, presentable and approachable.
Your relationships with people are
the key to your personal and career success.
It is always easier to start a relationship than to sustain it. Your success depends mostly on the quality of
relationships that you develop.
Relationships of trust and harmony will lend credibility to you and your
company. If your customers or staff feel
that you are approachable and understanding,
they will trust you and open up to you easily.
What is
motivation? Sci-Tech Encyclopedia
describes it as the intentions, desires, goals, and needs that determine
human and animal behavior.
Motivations keep our mind on the achievement of our goals. Without motivation, we either get sidetracked, or give up completely. Most people need motivation from outside influences; a winner will have
to motivate himself. A motivated person influences
the people around him.
To be motivated, you must have a goal. Otherwise, you will just drift on, as there is lack of direction or aim. The catalyst for your self motivation lies in your ideas and goals. Stagnation can cause boredom, contempt and burnout in our lives, while new challenges inspire and energize us.
DEVELOPING SELF DISCIPLINE
Self discipline is about taking
control of yourself and improving yourself to achieve goals. This covers many areas of your life -
managing your time, your priorities, emotions and stress.
Managing your time helps you focus on your priorities and track your progress; so that you are able to spend your time productively.
Manage your emotions and learn to think critically. Make your decisions, based on facts rather be influenced by bias and feelings.
Manage your stress - take time to relax your mind and body, so that you are not bogged down by physical and mental exhaustion, which could affect you adversely.
Possessing self discipline will help you rule your thoughts, so that you will not be affected by outside events and happenings.
Being a winner takes hard work, however the rewards are tremendous. You will not only succeed in your career, you will also find your personal life to more fulfilling. You are in control of your life and therefore, master of your own destiny.
