Ice Road Truckers takes truck driving to the extreme. In season one, these extreme truck drivers’ hauled loads from Yellowknife north to the diamond mines. The Ice Road truckers drove across icy terrain and frozen lakes to delivery equipment and supplies.
As season two of Ice road Truckers kicks off, we are taken further north as the drivers haul loads from Inuvik to Tuktoyaktuk. The dangers of the ice roads are more severe as the truckers leave behind the frozen lakes and set off across the frozen Arctic Ocean.
As the Ice Road Truckers drive to the end of the Earth they cross the most deadly terrain on the ice roads. Where the fresh water of the Mackenzie River meets with the salt water of the Arctic Ocean, the two worlds collide creating havoc and serious dangers for the drivers.
In season two of Ice road Truckers, the ice road carries supplies and equipment to the Mallik Gas Hydrate Fields and Research Center. Mallik is only accessible by boat and air when the ice road is not available. Additionally, trucks have only been driving on the ice road since 1981. Before that, the ice road was only open to dog sleds.
Four of the drivers in season one of Ice road Truckers, migrated north to the Mackenzie River Ice Road. Hugh Rowland, Rick Yemm, Alex Debogorski, and Drew Sherwood are the Yellowknife drivers brave enough to travel north and tackle an ice road more dangerous than what they are use to. With the chance of the rising tide cracking the ice road and sending drivers plummeting into the abyss of the Arctic Ocean, even the drivers with nerves of steel understand the dangers that the ice road offers.
In the season two opener of Ice Road Truckers, the drivers learn that the Mackenzie Ice Road is a whole new ball game. Drew Sherwood quits on the very first day on the job. Perhaps if he had spent more time trying to help them out instead of whining and smoking cigarettes, the boss would have worked harder to find Drew a truck to haul up the ice road.
It definitely takes a certain kind of person to truck such heavy loads across the ice with only the cold deep water below!
