Satellite TV Piracy to see changes

Satellite TV subscribers in Canada will undergo another satellite Smart Card ( Conditional Access Card) swap in Bell ExpresssVu's attempts to thwart Satellite TV signal theft. The transition by Bell to another new encryption system is now in its second stage and requires many ExpressVu subscribers to remove the SmartCard inside their satellite receivers and swap them with a new one.

In the first stage of the new encryption transition, ExpressVu issued new firmware updates through their satellite signal streams to selected satellite receivers. These firmware updates were sent out discreetly at night to said selected receivers without any intervention by the subscriber.

In the second stage of the update process, ExpressVu sent a letter in the mail to affected subscribers which included a new upgraded SmartCard. Swapping the SmartCard on the ExpressVu receiver is a simple process. On most ExpressVu receivers, the SmartCard is located at the front, on the left hand side behind a small plastic panel or door. The card fits into a small slot is hidden by closing the plastic panel door.

The subscriber simply swaps the old card for the new one. Once the new card is in place, customers are required to activate the new card online or via a toll free phone number. Bell says it will then take approximately 15 minutes to 2 hours for programming to return to normal. Failure to activate the new Smartcard in the given time limit may result in loss of programming, or a continual on screen reminder advising them to do so.

You can expect the US Satellite company DishNetwork to follow suit very shortly. Bell ExpressVu and DishNetwork use the same technologies and similar satellites. Bell purchased the technology from Echostar Communications in the US. Echostar is the parent company to Dishnetwork. Although DishNetwork and bell ExpressVu are completely separate companies using separate satellites, they do share common methods and technologies. Smart cards, Satellite receiver boxes, satellite dishes and broadcasting methods are virtually the same.

Since the last encryption scheme update in 2005, ExpressVu and Dish Network have been seriously compromised by satellite piracy using inexpensive Free-to-Air (FTA) receivers to illegally watch ExpressVu and Dish Network programming.

More than 2 million homes in 2007 were pirating Bell ExpressVu and Dish Network Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite television signals. The new encryption scheme currently in deployment is an attempt by ExpressVu and Dish Network to shut down the satellite pirates.

Card Swap

@ 7:21 am 07/02/08 by Dish Master
Let them change their cards all they want, the new N3 encryption has already been hacked. All they have added is a little morphing to the card, 2 more sets of keys but basicly is the same N2 signal with a little twist that the hackers have already figured out and have been using now for a couple months.

This card swap is just to make the stock holders happy and to get the big companies like HBO off their back, but what is it going to do to their stocks when the blow 100 million to change out to a card that is not much better than what they have already?

Dish Network makes money out of people hacking their signal lets face it. When DTV secured their signal their subs dropped and Dish Networks went up. Hackers usually have a sub to the signal they are hacking for a backup, hence that is why the subscriber base went up by several million subs while DTV went down. Check it out, you will see what I am saying is true.

Lets face it, you can not stop the hackers, you can make it bumpy at times but they will over come it. DirecTv is hacked too, they just will not release it because they want big bucks for the hack and they will not get it while people can shell out 150 bucks for a box and not have to worry about a ECM destroying their cards, FTA is the way. They have a chip that will allow the FTA boxes to receive DTV as well but again the hackers want the money and I do not blame them.

Money is tight, they should be happy with what they are getting. And I would like to know how they can say people are stealing a signal that is being forced on them? This signal is being showered down all over the US, Canada, & Mexico. I for one did not say hey, you can shower me with your signal, it is already here, on my land I have paid for, pay taxes on, etc... If you do not want people getting your signal than keep it off their property, problem solved.

Bell and Dish can swap everything. Either ways they are going to get cracked in. When Nagra 2 came out we were like 4 weeks or more waiting for an update from the FTA coders. I thought they weren't going to hack it cause maybe it was impossible. But eventually they did it.

Like they did it for Nagra 2 they will easily do it with Nagra 3. Actually like Dish Master said before it has been done already. Right now there are tons of issues relating the boxes that catch Bell's signal. They get zapped more often now and the programs on which they run on die faster but in 2 days they are watching TV again. There is no thing they can do about it.

I heard rumors that Dish is also fabricating an FTA box. I wish to find more information about this but that would be the biggest act of hypocrisy ever.

Also Dish and EchoStar have both submitted Pansat, Viewsat and other big FTA brands to trial but they have never won a case because they don't have enough evidence.

no porn, please

@ 3:27 pm 07/06/08 by Granny
I know people who pirate to avoid paying the pornographrs. You can't get any kind of subscription that avoids at least some porn (sometimes late at night) and it doesn't do any good to complain. The sat company just says, Well, don't watch if you don't like it. But if I don't like it, I don't want my money subsidizing it even if I don't watch it. I hope the hackers keep hacking until all the purveyors of the truly awful trash we pay for whether we want to or not can't make a nickel of profits and then maybe we'll have some peace and normal relations between men and women. It's disgraceful.

bad news!
Start looking at hacking DTV ,,, Bev and DIK will be flushing keys ranm, oly every 60 seconds ... which means even if you DO get a picture... will last less than a minute.

Sell your FTA while it is marketable. ROM102 ... bye bye
