David Archuleta's Stage Dad Will Hurt His Future Career
Stage parents will always be here to stay.
Lindsay Lohan has mom Dina, Britney Spears has Lynn and pretty much every other young upstart has some parent wanting a share of the limelight. It's not just wanting to guide their kids towards greater popularity that drives them to hog the stage, a lot of it is really wanting to live the "star's" life that their kid enjoys.
Now the latest in this list of creepy, domineering parents is Jeff Archuleta, son of the giddy, teenage contestant of American Idol. Young David is an immediate catch, with his boyish good looks, powerful singing voice and friendly, humble demeanor. Frankly speaking, he's sure to go places. Even now, as one of the contestants of American Idol, David Archuleta already has legions of women and teenage girls fawning over his every move. He's pretty much the latest boy-next-door.
But could his dad's territorially expansive ways be his downfall? Daddy Archuleta is pretty much counting his eggs before they hatch, practicing his domineering ways even before David is actually declared winner of American Idol. Recently, he was banned from American Idol premises for messing with his son's song (adding a verse from Sean Kingston's "Beautiful Girl" to it) that led to quite an additional expense for the production.
Frankly, if David Archuleta does win and go on to national stardom, Jeff Archuleta could be the anvil tied to his young neck. His dominance won't end with getting banned by the AI staff; it's going to get a whole lot worse when his son finally becomes an actual popstar. Jeff Archuleta will be no different from the stage fathers and mothers who came before him.
Worst, he actually has the gall to mess with the creative process. The fact that he thought he could improve his son's performance with a Sean Kingston verse (what he thought that could achieve, I don't know) is enough to send chills down my spine.
I certainly hope David Archuleta manages to step out of his dad's shadow somehow. Otherwise, all the luck in the world can't keep his young career afloat for long.
