PS3 vs Xbox 360

So, with the arrival of Grand Theft Auto IV, it's interesting to see how things have changed in 2 years. Xbox 360 used to be better in all categories - Game selection, Price, Graphics - Everything. But a lot has changed. Both consoles saw price drops, and firmware updates have the potential to improve both gaming and non-gaming features. New titles have been released for both - and that mystery contender, the wii - hasn't proved as good.

Since the released of the consoles, Xbox 360 is still winning on price. But is that a good thing?
For the life of me, I can't find any preowned Playstation 3's anywhere apart from Ebay, But Xbox 360's are everywhere. COnsumers are discovering that spending $100 extra for the elite edition might not have been a good idea.

Many argue that the Playstation 3 simply has "better graphics". To be honest, even as a Playstation 3 supporter, the graphics are the same on both consoles.

Onto the games. Halo 3 came out for Xbox 360, and was tipped to be one of the best games ever. But PS3 has Haze now, and thats also causing a lot of hype.

With the arrival of Grand Theft Auto IV, the exclusive games don't really matter anymore. It's "The best game in history", and the first GTA in which you can play online.

Which brings me to my next point.
The main argument for any PS3 owner is the following :

For a PS3, to get online you need to own a wireless network. End of.

For a Xbox, to get online you have to install software, which you pay for, then pay for Xbox live subscription. All that, and owning a wireless network of course.

So the price difference for the consoles doesn't really look very important when you consider that having an Xbox for 3 years could cost you a lot. Money you could be spending on games, for example.

All in all, the consoles are neck and neck at the moment. But I would still go for a PS3 and not pay for Xbox Live yearly.

Crap article.
Xbox live is way better than anything the PSNetwork has and for the £0.07 a day I pay for it its worth it.

What?

I'm an avid PS3 supporter, but your reasoning has me, well, embarrassed.

First of all, do not tout Haze as our answer to Halo3. It'll never generate the popularity, and the demo is wretched.

Xbox Live also doesn't require any software installation...what are you talking about? Yes, it's great the PS3 is free in this area, but let's not knock Live with lies.

And honestly, if you can't find a used PS3...you aren't looking very hard. They're everywhere, just like 360s. If anything it's harder to find a NEW PS3.

Drop the fanboyism bro.

install software

@ 7:47 am 05/12/08 by gamertag: levi3man
Install software on the xbox 360? what software? you just plug in you network cable, or connect to your wireless network and thats it. Xbox 360 is a console not a PC you dont instal things. You only install things on PC's Macs and PS3's.

You dont install anything, you just connect.

To go online, chat, download demos, download arcade demos, chat with msn/windows live messenger, watch trailers, its all free.

To play with other people, to video chat, thats when you start paying. And its quite cheap. you can do a 1month £4.99 3 month £??? or year about £40 i think.

Network?

You dont need a wireless network. You only need a DSL modem. Or cable modem.

Considering the Xbox360 doesn't have wireless, nor does the 20 GB PS3...I'm not sure how a wireless network is required.

I fell dumb after reading this article. The author obviously has no idea what they are talking about. Haze is PS3's answer to Halo? Actually Metal Gear Solid 4 is the exclusive title Sony is banking on to drive console sales. The Wii hasn't proved as good? In what category? I'll give you graphics and good third party titles. But that doesn't seem to matter because it continues to consistantly outsell both the XBOX 360 and PS3, and some months combined. Marketing and a nice gimmick has pushed Wii to the top of the consoles wars of this generation. And no there is no software to install on the XBOX 360. You also do not need a wireless connection for either system. However, to go wireless on the 360, you will need to purchase an adapter. WiFi is included with the PS3 and Wii. Now as far as which console you want for GTA IV, then it's got to be the 360. Microsoft paid a great deal of money for exclusive downloadable content. Sony and their fanboys are trying to downplay this. Not having any allegiance to anyone, owning all three consoles, I trust that my picking up GTA IV on the 360 was a sound decision. Why wouldn't want the option to have this extra content?

I like your ideas, but the article could definitely focus on more important things.

Hell, I used to be a huge 360 fanboy. But by my 4th RROD'd Xbox, I just gave up on the entire shipping it back to Microsoft, waiting, etc. process. The games were overhyped and didn't deliver, I was tired of paying for online, and, honestly, there are too many assholes on XBL.

I'm really glad that I switched over to the PS3. The overall quality of the games are better, the online is free (whether using a wireless or wired connection), the interface is easy to use, the new Playstation Store is awesome, and I have so much to look forward to. I mean, with MGS4, Haze, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo 5, God of War III, Final Fantasy, Jak and Daxter, Resistance 2, Heavenly Sword 2, Motorstorm 2, and Mirror's Edge.

All the incorrect info you have said has been corrected by other people on the forum, So I'll just say, that like cable TV, as opposed to Free TV on rabbit ears - You GET what you pay for. Unless your making $7.99 a week for a paycheck, $49 a year is not alot. It's less than a tank of petrol, And a HELL of a lot more enjoyable! I was not an early adopter of the 360, and wasn't even sure I would want the online service, until I got used to it, now going a night without getting online and saying hi to my family and friends all over the world would seem empty. May as well go back to the telephone or something.

Online experience

@ 9:29 am 05/12/08 by Mista Wicket
Regarding the xbox's online fee... it is worth it... You do know that the PS2 online experience was free too, right? The problem with free is that the support for a free online game is not gaurunteed to stay on. a lot of sony online users seem to forget this or don't know it, but if you try to get online with a game like Resident evil outbreak file 1 ... you can't. You can try to get online, with File 2... but you can't... I even triede getting online with Arc The Lad: EoD,

does he owns any of the two consoles?

Wow,

Funny! This is perhaps the worst comparison PS3 vs 360 I have read.

PS3 is a solid machine. No questions asked. Now, the 360 has been is superior were it counts at this moment. XBOX Live! Not sure what software he needed to install or why he complains about a $50 a year subscription that allowed you to play any single game with other 10million plus xbox live subscribers. Sure you get PS3 for "free" but you get what you pay for....

PS3 is a Solid Machine

When I bought my PS3 last summer, I was ready for new games to come, one after the other since than have proven that PS3 is way cool.

The Blu-ray player is indispensable, without the Blu-ray play. My company make streaming Medias, and PS3 have been the chosen as the de facto platform for its superior capability.

Usually, most people think that Free is usually no good quality, however, Free is actually good and beneficial for all parties if the right people get on it. Free from SONY is definitely better compare to if it is free from Microsoft. (they should stick to making Windows Vista much better than it is now, than trying to take on other areas where they clearly mess up)

It's right in many ways!

@ 10:15 am 05/12/08 by johann Botha
I had a xbox 360. Getting all the accesories to play games costed me a lot more than if I just went with the PS3 from the start. I had to get the wireless option due to my house layout. Then I had to ship it back to MS 3 times to get it fixed, (1st coz of Error 66, then coz of the DVD drive and now, Red Ring of death!). And becuase I am staying in Africa doesn't make life much easier.

And think of this: games like GTA IV might be great on the xbox for you but why must I pay double for more content for it. We pay per GB to download anything from the web here in South Africa, we pay $7 per 1 GB. So if i want more episodes, I need to pay for the content and the GB. It can get pretty expensive for big games like GTA IV! And we don't have xbox live locally, we have to import vouchers at a premium price from the UK as our credit cards does not work on their servers. (the US servers have way too much lag for us to play on, and they doesn't support us anyway.) On PS3 I can go online for free, with no costs or restrictions.

And on the PS3 I can import games from anywhere in the world as I'm not locked to an region. Saves me allot of $$$ as games are a lot cheaper in the US compared to the UK, Africa

what is so different on XBL that PSN dosent have, Video, games, demo, video chat, and i think video on demand is coming this fall, i play resistance, COD4 with out any lag i havent experienced any down time hardly 1 or 2 time and i own ps3 since a year, y do people down play PSN, i think because it is free and others are paying for the XBL for some extra features which they dont use. and the article is pointless !!!

You are correct George, one being an education. Please get one. Let's break down your sentence: "THERES MORE TO LIFE THEN GAMING." I think you were trying to say there is more to life THAN gaming. The way you phrased it did not make much sense. Then (the proper way to use it, by the way) you go on to say "YOUR ALL JOKES." You probably meant to say YOU'RE all jokes. I never would have thought there would be someone as uneducated than the author of this article, but thanks to you, you proved me wrong.

DING DING, you win the award for the dumbest article!

@ 10:18 pm 05/14/08 by billy
Are you kidding me? Haze? It'll be the next Unreal Tournament 3 for the ps3 that sold millions right? OHHHHHHHHH, it didn't. Nothing is saving the ps3 from last place this generation. Xbox live is the best online structure any console has ever had. Sony's free "There is NO free lunch" network is a complete joke compared to Live. It doesn't even do half of what Live provides. 50 dollars a YEAR is nothing for quality online gameplay.

The Fact points everything to the 360 being the better gaming console. The hardcore gamers play on the 360, the HD movie fans are buying the ps3 as a cheap blue ray player / I'll play games here or there.

End of discussion

clear up the mess

@ 10:33 am 05/17/08 by colin
Playstation 3 is great, only idiots would disagree, xbox 360 is great too and the wii is in a league of its own (only completly seperate from hardcore gaming). buy one if you want a workout, i'l rather eat and drink whilst i'm playing Six-axis is hard enough. The article is crap and is not worth reading because they are equally good consoles! its like comparing toasters! as long as it works who cares it is SAD! gamers should grow up and except that in an ideal world, they would have all 3 consoles! i know i would. exclusive games and content should be banned, as a ps3 owner i would love to try halo games, mass effect and gears of war but not for the sake of losing haze, mgs4, GT5, littlebigplanet and best of all playstation Home, forget Facebook.

Leave you with one message to remember.........its the games that matter not what you play them on.

online play on ps3 runs lag free and the system is always up and running. the only advantage 360 has is the ability to chat during game which is coming to ps3 though i hardly care. your $50 annual fee adds up to $350 over a 7 yr console life effectively DOUBLING the cost of your 360 to $700! in the words of GLADOS, if you love your xbl so much, why dont you marry it.
