My (depressing) Plans on Using The Stimulus Check Payment

My (depressing) Plans on Using The Stimulus Check Payment.

For the past two weeks everyone in my office has been buzzing about the Stimulus checks. One coworker phones home daily on her lunch break to have her daughter run to the mailbox to see if it’s arrived.

I fight the urge to remind people that they government is basically just giving you back money that belonged to you to begin with. Rather than waste it themselves they decided to give a little bit back to us in hopes that we’ll waste it.

Humor columnist Dave Barry has come out of retirement to draft a very special essay on the Stimulus check. He has done the best job of putting the idea in perspective in this quick question and answer point.

Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?

A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.

Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.

Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China?
A. Shut up.

While others dream of Ipods and television sets my plans for the funds from my Stimulus check are a bit less exciting. Thanks to the skyrocketing cost of food and gas those of us living paycheck to paycheck are having a hard time making ends meet.

While my initial thought of how nice it would be to get an 'extra' couple hundred dollars to blow on gadgets and toys I would much rather not break into a cold sweat every time I open my mailbox or answer the phone. .

My entire stimulus check is going towards bills. Anything left over I'm holding onto to pay next months bills. Even if my bills were covered I would take the $600 and stick it in the bank so I can spend $50 a month on gas every month for the next year.

What are you planning on doing with your check?

My stimulus check

As much as I encourage getting out of debt and investing, I have to agree with the government that, in order for this check to do what it was intended to do, you need to go out and spend all or, at least, some of it.

Why not? You deserve to have some fun with your money, don’t you?

Actually going out and spending money, especially money you didn’t expect, will do more to help you attract even more money. As strange as it sounds, by doing this you are creating a link in your mind that having and spending money is fun and, since we ultimately want to have fun, your subconscious mind will start finding more ways you can earn more money to have even more fun.

One way you can spend some of your stimulus check and still benefit greatly is to invest in a personal development program or some other type of education that will, ultimately, enrich your life.
