A Review of "Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love"
Few athletes have come close to matching ex- professional ball player Deion Sanders' talents. He was a master at two sports- football and baseball- and has continued to be an entertaining personality off the field.
His charming arrogance has contributed to many a sports commentary show. He has always been over-the-top, which is what makes him such a great subject for a reality show.
Sanders now appears on the Oxygen Network in "Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love," yet another reality show that lets us peek in on the private lives of a celebrity family. Included in the Sanders household are wife Pilar- a gorgeous ex-model/actress, and children Deion, Jr., Deiondra, Shilo, Shedeur and Shelomi. They all reside together in a huge mansion in the tiny Texas town of Prosper.
Deion Sanders takes male chauvinism to a whole new level on this show, as he rides around the inside of his "castle" on a motorized scooter, like the lord of the manor, and refuses to lift a finger to help his wife Pilar.
We are supposed to believe that she is responsible for maintaining the upkeep of their humongous house and taking care of their kids all by herself...EVERY SINGLE DAY, yet still has time to go out to lunch with her best friend and has the time AND desire to give some good lovin' to her insensitive "king", at day's end.
If that's really true, she should get an award from "Ripley's Believe It or Not."
Pilar's chief complaints, thus far, seem to be that Deion doesn't appreciate the value of what she does in their home and that his advice to their kids is implausible. I don't think anybody, though, would expect a man who was nicknamed "Prime Time", because of his tremendous ego, to be saddled down with the mundane tasks of everyday life.
I am pretty certain that, at the start of their marriage, Pilar had to have known that Deion was a high-maintenance guy. His antiquated ideas of what he considers to be "woman's work" might be offensive, if you didn't realize that, beneath his absurd remarks, is a man who sincerely loves his mate. The genuine, playful affection between this couple is apparent.
Besides, If Deion Sanders were to suddenly allow himself to be "tamed" into being a docile house-husband, the show wouldn't be as much fun to watch.
I suspect that those who tune into "Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love" are being somewhat toyed with. Deion probably isn't as extreme in his views, once the cameras are turned off, and Pilar probably has lots of help to keep that gigantic house looking sparkling clean every day.
For now, though, let's just enjoy the illusion and see this show for what it really is: Pure entertainment!
