Deus Ex 3

Deus Ex 3

The first Deus Ex game was hugely successfuly with rave reviews, a Bafta award and great influence amongst video games of all time, no doubt because of its intriguing and intelligent plot, cutting decision-making, and cult cyberpunk persona.

Deus Ex 2 however, was felt my many loyal fans of the first Deus Ex, to have been "dumbed down", with the decision-making less significant in the overall dynamic of the game and less challenging problems.

Roughly this time last year, very vague rumours started speculating after a suggestion of Deus Ex 3 mentioned at an interview with the director of the French branch of Eidos. However it was not until the end of last year when a trailer was released that people realised that the emergence of a third sequel was a reality. However at this point it should be noted that neither Warren Spector nor Harvey Smith, the main individuals behind the first two games, are associated with Deus Ex 3.

Eidos France's Stephane D’Astous stated that they have received a "huge mandate" to focus on the creation of Deus Ex 3, and they will diverge the process by creating smaller teams with multi-discipline employees. Whilst being more efficient, this process means that they development of the game will take 18 - 24 months, with the release date therefore in 2009. The game will be using the Crystal Dynamics engine, like games such as Legacy of Kain and Tomb Raider Legend, as opposed to the previous two Deus Ex games which used versions of the Unreal Engine.

The trailer video features several images rapidly flashing indistinguishable when played at normal speed. However a Deus Ex fan has broken down this video passage in an in depth analysis with explanations. [credit to his original work]

So the question in the minds of fans, will the third game be a resounding success like the first, or will it only be mediocre by comparison, like the second, and will the new team provide clear thinking and fresh ideas, or just inexperience? Only time will tell.

First Deus Ex was a masterpiece of it's time. You could play in so many different styles it was never the same. I've played it in no kill mode for the first two major stages. Later found a guide by someone who managed to complete the game without killing any opponent. And you can go in hard like terminator. Few games ever have been that flexible.

DeusEx2 was a disaster it was a resource hog. It was so buggy you can't actually play it. And finally it was plain boring.

I'm having high hopes for this new one. Will be awaiting it eagerly :)

The sub-plots of Deus Ex 1 were excellent, like breaking into the bakery to steal the zyme in Paris, etc. Deus Ex 2 lacked a lot of that, hopefully deus ex 3 will bring these minor objectives back in.

Really looking forward to this game. I'm one of the few who enjoyed Invislble War, but it will always take second place to the original. I say, let Eidos Montreal take however long they want on DX3, as long as it kicks our butts like the first Deus Ex game did.
