American Idol's Final Four: Who Will Win, Who Will Go Home?
May 5th, 2008 @ 06:19 AM
American Idol is getting down to the wire. With only four contestants left, the season and performers are now kicking into high gear. This has arguably been the season of American Idol with the most talent, and that talent is all clawing for the top spot.
Unfortunately for Syesha Mercado, the top spot on American Idol will not belong to her. Throughout the season, she has failed to make a strong connection with the audience. That lack of connection has placed her near the bottom of the pack all season long. Thus far, Mercado has managed to scrape up enough votes to surpass the lowest vote getter. However, now that the show is down to four contestants, her time has run out. The judges have indicated that she will not make it any further than she already has. No matter how she performs, she rarely gets praised by Simon, Paula or Randy. It is as if they are ready for her to go.
Jason Castros time on American Idol will be up right after Syesha Mercados. While Castro still has a strong fan base, it does not equal the amount of fans that David Cook and David Archuleta have accumulated. Simon commented on the last show that Castro has lost himself during the season, and that is true. While he used to show a lot of emotion in his songs, and offer up unique arrangements, he hasnt come through lately. That, combined with his weaker voice, will cause him to end up being number three for the season. He simply does not vocally compare to either Cook or Archuleta.
That will leave David Cook and David Archuleta as the final two. The battle of the Davids has been played up all season long, and surely the American Idol producers will be happy if it ends that way. Both contestants are loved for different reasons, and it will make for an entertaining, nail biting finale. Fans from both sides will be dialing their phones to place as many votes as possible. It will be tense, as the viewers wait to see who the winner is.
David Archuletas fans might be in for a disappointment. There is a good chance that he will come in second place on American Idol. It is not that he doesnt have a strong fan base. He certainly does, and his fans love him to no end. However, he does not have the same strong appeal to multiple genres as David Cook does. David Cook will be able to pull fans from previously voted off contestants. That will work in his favor. David Archuleta, however, will not grow his fan base. That will hurt him in the end.
It has been an interesting season of American Idol, one in which there has been many surprises. There has been an amazing amount of talent grace the stage this season, making things both exciting and enjoyable. Idol has set the bar for seasons to come.

American Idol by Wendy on 5/5/08 @ 10:27 AM IMHO, Cookie and Syesha should be the Top 2. THEY ARE BOTH GREAT in their own ways! :)
American Idol by Wendy on 5/5/08 @ 10:37 AM Actually, I forgot something. If the truth be told, I thought the very best singer in the entire competition was Alexandra---- Spelling? Or Pronunciation?----- Alexandria?
by Paul on 5/5/08 @ 10:39 AM I agree with the above commenter (NOT the Original Poster)... I really do feel like the Top 2 SHOULD be Cook vs Syesha, with Cook winning. jmo by Amy on 5/5/08 @ 10:54 AM Good analysis. I find it amazing that David Cook fans think David C needs help in getting votes by bashing a 17 year old and making statements of opinion as fact. If Cook is all that they believe he is, then he will win. However, when Cook fans bash a 17 year old in an attempt to divert votes for their favorite, it makes me look at each weeks performances more objectively, not less. I vote for who performs best. However, the more I see Cook fans bash Archuleta, the less I am inclined to vote for someone whose fans are out in force to degrade a fellow AI contestant. Should not blame it on Cook, but it does look organized. David Cook Should Win! by Mia on 5/5/08 @ 12:15 PM First, I would like to comment on Amy's post...I have read more bad stuff from the David A fans than I have from David C fans. In fact the DA fans made an entire Facebook group devoted to bashing DC. And they got really personal talking about DC's brother and all. So I would just like you to note that it goes both ways and I don't think either David A or David C is encouraging this kind of bad-mouthing.
David Cook should win American Idol no doubt by mare on 5/5/08 @ 3:15 PM David Cook should win American Idol. This is a no brainer. This guy is so talented and has such a good ear for music and rearranging, he is every Record Label's marketing dream.
Calm down, people by LuvDC on 5/5/08 @ 3:58 PM I feel like everyone is blasting people that they don't agree with as AI winds down this year. It's disappointing to me that some fans (sounds like Archuleta fans especially) would get so personal as to even talk about DC's brother. IMO, that is really tasteless considering Adam Cook is fighting for his life and he's only 36!
by Carli on 5/5/08 @ 8:47 PM David Archuleta is 10X more talented than David Cook! Don't get me wrong, I like Cook's songs and I've bought a few. Archuleta's voice, ability to make you feel the music and growth potential outweigh's anything Cook will ever have or be. He is a prodigy and it's obvious. He also fits the role of an American Idol much better than Cook! Cook's image is a dime a dozen. Archie is amazing and the world should only hope he is "The Chosen One". Go Archuleta!!! FTW MY THOUGHTS ON THE FINAL 4. by Rebecca on 5/6/08 @ 1:39 PM There are 4 contestants left in the competition and we all know that when it's over there can be only be one American Idol.
Go Back to PostJason is not my favorite by any means. But I thought he was 10 times better than Archie last week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And for the most part I do enjoy listening to him. I did NOT enjoy either of Archie's performances last week and I really tried to be objective. His voice is just too high for my taste, I guess. Therefore, I think Jason should be #3. I think he DOES care and he just gets nervous with interviews. After Paula's gaffe though, I would not feel too badly if Jason won though.
Actually, if it had been up to me, Michael, Carly, and David Cook would have been my Top 3. And the kid who wanted to be the Governor of Oklahoma would have beaten Archie into the Top 24!!!!!!!
Sorry Archie fans. I can tell he's a good kid and I don't mean any offense. But my ears just don't hear what yours' hear and it is a matter of preference.
BY THE WAY, WHY WERE WE, THE AUDIENCE, AND SYESHA LED TO BELIEVE THAT SHE WAS IN THE BOTTOM 2??????!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dialidol predicted that only she and Cookie were safe. It also showed she had the most votes or at least the second most votes. How reliable is Dialidol?
I do NOT want to see a David vs. David finale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BORING, BORING, BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Archie wins, AI will lose a HUGE fan who has watched EVERY SINGLE EPISODE EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
LUSHINGTON-----
SHE WAS THE ABSOLUTE BEST AND AMERICAN DEFINITELY GOT THAT ONE WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I HOPE WE HEAR ABOUT HER SOON!!!!!
With that said, I think DAVID COOK is amazing. I think he'll be the biggest star ever in a couple of years. I think he will stay around for decades and create album after album that tops the charts. He is very talented and seems like a great guy. I also like his humor. I found a website that claims to be made by some of DC's real-life friends. DC and his buddies seem awesome and I can't wait until he wins

Archeuleta is so boring and is not even appealing at.
I just hope that when people vote, they don't get the David's mixed up....that would be a disaster.
If Archie wins, Idol will only prove that they put out cheesy and boring singers. David Cook is cool, trendy has an incredible vocal range and his voice is just so sexy and soothing...and at the time, he can rock out. Love this guy.
I wish everyone could remain positive about all of the contestants and realize that people have different ideas of what they are looking for in their Idol. As Simon says, if AI remains a talent competition instead of a popularity contest, DC should win. I don't think anyone can argue that he is one of the best, most consistent performers on the show in its history. Time will tell! Go David Cook!
So, with that being said, let's take a closer look at the remaining 4.
Syesha Mercado- She is a very talented signer and to have made it this far just proves that fact. However, her "diva" attitude has turned off many people and it will prevent her from winning this competition. She would have been better suited to win America's Next Top Model, not American Idol. I predict: She lasts one more week and then she goes home.
Jason Castro- Oh, he has his share of fans, make no mistake about that. But, he lacks the talent and the personality to be the next American Idol. His song choices are boring and he just doesn't seem to care if he's there anymore. He is far too laid back to take this competition seriously. I predict: He will be going home this week and that he won't care one way or the other.
David Archuleta (little david) - He has the "tween" vote on lockdown and he has Randy Jackson firmly placed in his corner, so that means he should win it all, right? Well, this could go either way- he could win it all, as Randy has predicted from the beginning or all of the premature predictions could be wrong and that could seriously backfire on him and make people actually vote for the most talented contestant and not the one that has been spoon fed to everyone to be the winner since Week 12. The "Arch Angels"- seem to think there votes are the only ones that count. Well, I believe that's what the "Claymates" and the "Soul Patrol" thought too.. and look where it got Clay and Taylor- absolutely no where...even if Taylor won Season 5.. his career since then has gone absolutely nowhere. And this could be the same outcome for little david. His fans might make him the winner, but his sales will prove he was not the one to beat after all. I predict: He will make the Top Two- and it will be very close, but he will not win, which leads us to....
David Cook- (Big David) It's obvious that he is the most talented contestant. His songs choices have been a perfect fit for him, his performances have been brilliant and his ITunes sales prove that he is marketable and that he will sell millions of CD's once Idol is over. The simple fact is that many people- not just the "tweens"- listen to, and will buy David Cook's music. And all of those people are going to vote for him in the finale. Just as he has gotten better and grown as a performer over this season, his fan base has also grown just as much and that is an unexpected, but very nice, surprise. He appeals to more than just the "tweens" and because of that he has a broader fan base. This is the year that the most talented contestant will win. The only way he doesn't win is if the "tween" voters get more votes in that everyone else, and I just don't see that happening. I do believe that it will be the closest finale in Idol history, but when all the votes are accounted for I predict: David Cook IS going to be named the next American Idol. End of story.
