What Will Come of David Archuleta After American Idol?

In a world where superstar status can be achieved and lost in a mere television season, it should come as no surprise that American Idol fans cannot get enough of David Archuleta. He has what it takes for “it” guy of the moment. He’s cute, he’s sweet, and he does have a nice voice. However, does David Archuleta have the staying power needed to be a star past the time of American Idol?

Two seasons ago, Taylor Hicks vanished into obscurity after his Do I Make You Proud moment. As the confetti was being swept off of the American Idol stage, so was the career of Taylor Hicks. It turned out that he did not carry over his fan base from American Idol into the real world. Taylor Hicks is not the only former Idol that found the world of recording to be much harsher than the judges of American Idol. Katherine McPhee lost her recording contract rather abruptly. Fantasia had to make a name for herself in Lifetime movies and on Broadway. Life after American Idol has not been easy for many contestants. Sadly, the same can probably be true for David Archuleta.

David Archuleta has a lot of appeal on American Idol for several reasons. For one, Archuleta appeals to young girls and their mothers. That is a very powerful fan base on American Idol. Those are the groups that are picking up the phones and dialing in. Girls and moms love the sheepish grin he gives before and after a performance. They love the runs he puts into songs they already know. They love the emotional songs that he chooses. Those are all things that work on American Idol.

When American Idol is over, though, that fan base will quickly pick up on the next hot thing. David Archuleta will find himself cast into the pool of former American Idol has-beens. Young girls and their moms are fickle when it comes to the superstar of the moment. They want someone who is accessible. For instance, right now Archuleta is on the television two nights a week on American Idol. That is what is giving him current fame. Take American Idol out of the equation, and there goes the fame.

David Archuleta is a trend right now. He is the New Kids of the Block of 2008. Where are those guys now? Where did their fans go? The fans grew up and moved onto a more mature style of music. The same will go for the fans of David Archuleta.

David Archuleta has a good television presence, but he will not be able to sell records or sell out concerts. He has proven that his taste in music does not have a broad appeal. When he has to actually perform his own music, he is going to be in trouble.

Even though he has a lot of talent, David Archuleta is deemed to fade into the oblivion of contestants past. He is a singer, but not exactly a musician. Maybe after he matures he will have a better understanding of what it takes to have staying power in the business.

You've got to be kidding TRU_Girl, cuter than Brad Pitt? I'm curious, if you think this author is so wrong, exactly what type of music is in your current collection that would mimic the style that David appears will bring to his fans AFTER Idol? Last I looked just being cute wasn't reason enough to sell music. Sure, maybe SOME CD's, but nothing to sustain a musical career. I believe David A. is talented, please don't get me wrong, I just don't see him actually selling the music that people are seeing on IDOL and being successful at it if they plan of gearing it towards the tweens, or teens which is supposedly his main support base.

Actually, Taylor Hicks did carry over his fanbase to his 300 concerts after idol. In fact, most of them were sold out. I attended two, and they were nothing short of amazing. His only downfall was the push for an album to go out in such a short time. Taylor is working on another album; and since he is not under the idol bubble, Taylor is able to take his time, be creative, and make it awesome. If you haven't heard them, take the time to listen to his two indie albums "In Your Time" and "Under the Radar". Those are Taylor Hicks. But then again, one would have to appreciate the "non cracker box" type of music.

Love how the media can put out their opinion when in fact they never know what REALLY IS GOING ON. You do not have a crystal ball to know where David Archuleta will wind up so why don't you sit on the side like the rest of us. Keep your opinions to yourself.

BTW I'm also a Taylor Hicks fan and you are dead wrong once again. Ever hear of payola and label dictated press releases? I'm certain you have and know why and how this industry works. You said Taylor didn't carry over his fanbase and vanished into obsurity. How do you know? Think YOU have vanished from doing your homework. Or maybe you just like the "here today and gone tomorrow" types of artists. Taylor's done very well for himself and is all over the place and these articles written about him to get more hits to websites is getting old. Let's make a bet who'll be around in ten years? The flavor of the month or Taylor Hicks. I'll add David A too.

Where will you be in ten years? Makes you wonder!

American Idol

Amy Cox - you are grossly misinformed. Do not spread misinformation! Taylor Hicks' first CD went platinum (without the help of radio play) and he is currently working on a new CD, to be released in the fall. A DVD called Whomp at the Warfield is also soon to be released. He also did two very successful tour across the U.S. last year, playing to packed houses, as well as a tour in Asia at the end of 2007. He just sang the American Anthem at Nascar Talladega. He is a VIP guest at the Kentucky Derby ( http://www.kentucky.com/109/story/389551.html )
and has been involved in numerous charity events - will be at a charity BBQ for the Governor of Alabama this week. He also will be opening a nightclub in the new entertainment section in Alabama. I believe he will be making a guest appearance on American Idol in a couple of weeks. He was not "dropped from his label" as was widely reported in the press - he and his former label "reached an agreement." You are "out of the loop" with accurate information. He is very much a celebrity - the man is an amazing performer and will be around for a long time.

Way to go Taylor Hicks fans...glad someone told this guy to check his info - don't leave out that Taylor's solo tour profited him some $4 million in ticket sales alone not counting merchandise sales. I actually have seen Taylor 4 times and have not been disappointed once. All 4 times I saw him were in sold out venues and each time I spent apprx $60-80 on T shirts, CD's and other items. Sure some
people don't get Taylor Hicks and they are the ones that just saw him on AI - I was a fan then and after seeing him live and actually meeting him and talking with him 3 times I will be a fan forever. He loves his music and is a kind, gentle soul who loves his fans.

David's staying power

@ 9:42 am 05/02/08 by blue
Just for the records....I am an interior designer and 58 years old.... the granny vote that Simon refers to with David Archuleta. I absolutely love this kid and can't get enough of his music. I usually listen to radio, but I bought an ipod just to be able to hear his music. I have bought everything he has out on itunes and that is all I play. Although I will miss seeing him perform on Idol every week, I will continue to buy everything he puts out and will go to every concert that comes to my area. I firmly believe that as Dolly said, "He has the voice to become a GREAT singer"... and he will. Not only because of his voice, but because he is a sweetheart and as genuine as they come. The devotion of his fans will only grow with time. As far as comparing David with past contestants, he ranks in the top as having the most talent. I wish the past contestants and winners well and Carrie is one of my fovorites.. another star. David will only get better as he is begins to work with writers and producers. Carrie is the perfect example of that. If there are any comparisons to be made... compare David to Carrie...David will equal her accompolishments. He is going to be a superstar for years to come.

I think David will have a career that will mirror Zac Efron if he does venture out and cross over to the movies. One forgets that he is exceptionally good looking in addition to his incredible voice. His sensitivity to things will also be a natural in picking up acting instincts and I cna't wait for this little boy to grow into a handsome young man who can tackle the dreamy goody male lead roles (like Tom Hanks) and pull off the movie's soundtrack (like Elton John)... to be honest comparing him to Taylor Hicks is like comparing oranges to apples... cos David is still growing into his niche in life whereas Taylor has already found his.

I think what really is going for David is his whole package... good looking, have a great voice, massive talent and POTENTIAL... herein lies the opportunity which the other idols do not have...

Frankly... I think Cook should win this... he's definitely in his element now but sadly... he's gonna graduate into the world of rockets whose first album will likely be phenominal, second decent and third off the wagon just like the rest before him... plus you cna bet alot more rockers in the likes of him and Daughtry will be churning out in numbers come the AI season 8... 9 and 10...

David Archuleta... one in a million.

Well it looks like what I was going to say has already been said so I'll just say this. I love Taylor Hick's self titled cd as well as his first two cd's In Your Time and Under the Radar and had a blast at the several concerts I attended along with a lot of his other fans. Don't believe everything you read or hear Taylor is still out there and still has a lot of fans who are anxiously awaiting his next cd to come out this fall.

David "might" have some trouble later on... who really knows? Teenagers DO have buying power... look at Miley Cyrus. But why do you have to be so mean and cruel? I honestly feel bad for the kid. If you notice, he was really cute and bubbly at the beginning of the season and now he seems very sad and beaten down. I woud probably be insecure if I had to read all the crap that is constantly in the media, especially at 17 years old. No other contestant has been bashed as badly as this poor kid.

Very clear he has the majority of votes now and you have nothing to criticize him for except predicting that his future won’t be as good as his presence!

No one knows what could happen in the future. The only thing we know is that he is a rare talent that needs all kind of support instead of attacking him.

He is 17 years old; he loves music and works hard to be better.

Looking forward to watch him progress in his life, I’m sure he will be legend.

What I have noticed is the people who criticize this kid tend to be David Cook fans. And yet, you don't hear David A fans trying this hard to criticize and ridicule David C in an effort to sway voters now do you? I happen to like David A the best, but I will be ok if David C wins. I think both David's are extremely talented and worthy of the AI crown.

You're right about being beaten up real bad... I have never seen such criticism come on so hard on any of the past contestants on AI...EVER...

You know what really hurts us DA fans... watching him perform Imagine and Shop Around, his bashfulness, his inward joy, to now the terror in his eyes and how relieved he is to be safe... I'm thinking to myself ... GOOD is boring but is being good truly hurting people so bad they need to resort to name calling...

You know what terms really bothers me most... how people have been calling him a RETARD... CREEP... ROBOT...

So sad that someone form a small town with an unusual load of purity to be attacked in this manner...

Actually..you can not compare David A with Taylor. Taylor was much older than David. Geeez...David is 17 and his potentioal is HUGE. THIS IS YOUR OPINION BUT YOU WILL HAVE A BIG SURPRISE.
David fan base is much larger than you said. I am 35.. and all my friends think that David voice is unique. Taylor was a performer. It's not the case with David..but he will improve this in time. I don't think any of his competitors were so amazing at his age.
David Archuleta is the only one who have the potential to become a star. But ..just the time can demonstarate this

I see a potentially massive post-Idol career for David Archuleta... check his websites and you'll see he has a broader appeal than u think. Another thing to note is that he has won the respect of some well-seasoned artists in the music industry at only the age of 17. Yes, he has some growing up to do (that's a given), but NO I don't agree with your assessment of his staying power.

How sad that cynical adults want to rob impressionable teens, who are really starving for a role model that isn't drinking, drugging and introducting our kids to sex way before their time... by slamming a wholesome, nice kid with a beautiful voice. I'm disgusted by the things I have read. David doesn't deserve it.

American Idol-Article about David Archuleta

I really think David Cook is going to win. I am also a fan of Taylor Hicks. Can't predict the future but I think Taylor Hicks will have a long career. May he have vindication (for all of the negative remarks made about him). The guy is a decent singer but he can entertain like nobody's business. I am also looking forward to his new CD.

I agree MS. If the good kids like David are bashed by the adult media, then what kind of message are we sending our children? We should be embrasing these kids, not putting them down. He has amazing talent.

As for Taylor, people need to get their heads 'out of the clouds' and DO their HOMEWORK before frivolously writing about his life after Idol. I'm glad he's away from Idol... raw, original Taylor is what we need.

I have to say that I agree with most of you above about Taylor Hicks and David Archuleta. It is sooo true with everything you guys said above. Also, it takes time to be big and no body knows what it will happen in the future only time will tell. I did not like Taylor as much on Idol but everything you guys said is true and Taylor does have a great voice and he is soul patrol! Just give him time! And that goes with David Archuleta. However, I'm a big, big fan of him and I'm only 21. I love, love his voice. It's sooo pure, beautiful, amazing, unique, mature, smart - oh sounds sooo good!!! He has potential! Give him time to grow a little and he'll be amazing. He's already has famous stars love him and his voice! He also sets a good example to young kids, teens, and adults. I'm twenty-one and I'm amazed by this young boy! I truly believe with every mentor said about him and it's true - he has talent! It's unbelievable and sooo mean how all these people put him down and don't care. He's soo young and he doesn't deserve this at all. All this meanness and people need to stop attacking this young boy. David will grow and will be amazing. I believe David deserve the American Idol title and is a good role model and extremely talent. I know I definitely can't wait to buy his album when it comes out.

I've watched this entire season of AI not to mention quite a few past seasons and I'll stand up and admit that David Archuleta doesn't move me. He has a nice voice but I wouldn't call it exceptional and he sure isn't a musical/vocal prodigy. He seems like a nice kid though quite a bit shy and unsure for a seventeen-year-old that has been performing for so many years. He is certainly cute in a very kitten/puppy dog way, Brad Pitt he is not - not Brad Pitt now nor Brad Pitt of 20 years ago, perhaps when he is an adult he may be quite handsome but right now he is a child. I think what is most interesting is that so much is made of what a kind, sweet boy David is, yet his fans come on here and basically launch personal attacks against a writer with nothing more than an opinion. I'm sure everyone is entitled to their opinion, aren't they? I think Amy Cox has put forward a valid argument for a possible post-Idol scenario for David Archuleta one that doesn't base any of its conclusions solely on emotion. She hasn't condemned him, cursed him, hexed him, insulted his talent, personality or vocal ability so what's all the anger and harsh words. I think when she says "vanished into obscurity" concerning Taylor Hicks it is simply a statement that the press and attention he generates now is nowhere near the levels it was during or in the few months post-Idol, I really don't think you can argue with that reality - he isn't Carrie Underwood or Kelly Clarkson. David Archuleta's path isn't set in stone he make succeed but he may fail, both are possible - that's reality.

David Archuleta

@ 10:15 pm 05/02/08 by Bookaholic
I think David Archuleta will be one of the biggest and best-selling recording artists ever. His voice is pure magic. It is so soaring and emotive. He moves me to tears often when I hear him sing--unlike anything I've ever encountered. I am also very smitten with his sweet and charming personality. The fact that he's as cute as there is does not hurt one bit, either.

This woman has her opinion, but I think she's going to be eating her words before long. David has a huge fan base that is not going to grow cold. I'm in my 50s, and I've never been even mildly interested in any celebrity in my life. I am completely besotted with this incredibly talented young guy. I call myself a 'lifer' coz I will always follow David's career and buy everything he puts out. I'm going to the Idol concert in July to see David, and it's a drive of 300 miles one way. Thrilled to do it because I just have to hear David sing in person.

I'm in good company when it comes to people who appreciate David. Natasha Bedingfield loves David, thinks he's going to win Idol, and said on the radio recently that she'd like to write some songs for him. They have similar styles--pop with a bit of soul styling. You haven't seen much of it in David so far, but that's because of all the weird theme weeks.

You 'ain't seen nuthin' yet' when it comes to David Archuleta, folks!

Obscurity?

@ 11:40 pm 05/02/08 by Susan11
really? Taylor Hicks has vanished into obscurity? You sure could have fooled me. Who is that gray haired dude I have been watching all these many months since AI 5? Just cause he doesn't sit in L.A. doesn't mean he vanished. After the biggest AI summer tour ever and he was nearly half the show and having a shadow tour with his old band at the same time playing to packed venues. He then went on 2 back to back tours of his own. Playing to sold out or very near sold out venues. His CD, despite not getting good promotion from the record company, sold well enough and he sold a ton of his first two independent cd's. Money he didn't have to share. LOL
He did the finale of Asian Idol and a few shows to packed houses in the phillipines, they really love him there. Recently he did the Regis and Kelly wedding, he was great, Kelly seemed to enjoy him. Many private and charity affairs, he is going to Itay soon and plans an international tour in the fall after his hew cd. He has been writing in Nashville collaborating with some respected writers that seem to be impressed with him. Word is he will be on Idol and he is doing a Sgt Pepper Revue. He was just at Nascar and will be at the Kentucky Derby plus an affair for the Governor of Alabama and there was the Alabama Hall of Fame and his DVD was just on HDNet tv. It is great.
And about 5 celeb golf tournaments, he really seems to love them. he is good. And the NBA celeb basketball game. That was very funny, so much fun. As Taylor always is. He has a large fan base that love him, enjoy him, support him and he will be around for a long, long, time.

David Archuleta have the staying power needed to be a star past the time of American Idol? It all depends on who's writing and producing his songs. He's had the highest compliments from some of the Industry's powerhouses: Natasha Bedingfield says she loves David Archuleta's voice and wants to write a song for him. Dolly Parton says he's got the voice to become a great, great singer. Neil Diamond called him some sort of prodigy. Mariah Carey said his performance was really moving and said his singing is just beautiful. The musical director at AI cites DA as one that tries different styles and that it always works great. From what I've read, Industry people that have worked with DA recently (and ones watching with great interest from the sidelines) sees his talents as they are and his incredible potential.

There are people in the industry that are dying to work with David A because he is so different than the other young singers that we are always seeing in the tabloids.

I personally think David A. has a beautiful voice but I can't see myself buying any records he puts out. Personaly I don't think he was ready for American Idol. A few more years down the road he probably would have been. Right now he is just not versatile enough for me. I don't think one should compare him to Taylor Hicks. First of all, Taylor didn't fade into obscurity, he went on tour to packed houses for almost a year. While I admit I am a big Taylor fan, I was disappointed with his first CD because I think he is much better than that. I sure hope in his next CD he puts forth the kind of music that sells today because I think he could have a real hit on his hands if he did. He needs to get away from his fanbase who is living in the past...and sings some "modern" soul music or bluesy rock.

hmmm... yes the music business is difficult, ... but isn't that what life is all about? overcoming and going through those valleys that make life interesting and challenging? why predict something terrible? an artist's life will have difficulty yes (tell me when a life is all rosy anyway, and you will see that person is living in fairy tale land), but having people predict and even venture to voice out that David is going to "fail" when he has not EVEN BEGUN to start his career, i'm sorry i think its cruel and sad. =( Give the guy a break please.

Amy, you have a right to your opinion, of course, but you realize it is just an opinion. You have managed to anger two fangroups in one fell swoop. Congratulations. Is this your intention in your future writing career? Just wondering.

I'm a longtime American Idol viewer who has never been so captivated with a performer on the show. David Archuleta has tremendous potential as a musician. He writes music, he has a gorgeous voice, his phrasings are sensitive and, as others have said, he has the respect of many music industry greats. (Also, it doesn't hurt that he's a cutie on his way to being incredibly handsome.)

Others on the show are talented and I expect that they will have success after the show. David Archuleta, I predict, will have a wondrous career. I'm just sorry that the competition and the passions of various fangroups have to suck the fun out of others' joy in watching the kids' journeys.

This article has a similar short-sighted feel to me.

I suspect win or lose, we will get a good 5 years out of David Cook, and I mean good. He is talented and I enjoy him. But Little David will eclipse him, lap him and leave him far behind.

When I heard David Archuleta sing The Long and Winding Road, it was as though I were hearing it for the first time, though it has been a favorite of mine for 30 years. He has the soul of an artist and I am grateful that I will have the opportunity to enjoy his music for the rest of my life.

“You said, ‘. . . . David Archuleta will find himself cast into the pool of former American Idol has-beens . . . . he will not be able to sell records or sell out concerts . . . . his taste in music does not have a broad appeal . . . . David Archuleta is deemed to fade into oblivion.’

For God’s sakes, David is just a 17 year-old kid! Everyone should admire and support him for his positive, can-do attitude and for sharing with us his love of music. Aside from AI, he also has to deal with his own personal problems as a teenager, not to mention he has to go to school on-site during the competition. Despite these stress and pressures, David is performing admirably. David is a talented, humble and good person who can be a role model for the youth. Don’t you want young people to relate to David? Or, do you want the youth to follow those entertainers who do drugs, get in trouble with the law and get into scandals? Your attitude tells people that you’re a mother or a mother-to-be who doesn’t see the need to encourage kids to try and do better. Kids don’t need any put downs specially when they don’t deserve it. Maybe you had an unhappy and rotten teenage years that even in adult life, you can’t bring yourself to predict a good future for a good and positive kid like David. You insulted David and predicted a gloomy future for him. Are you a fortune teller? I don’t believe in fortune tellers. I was told that one was ran over by a train.

You also insulted fans by characterizing them as fickle young girls and their mothers. Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary defines fickle: “. . . marked by lack of stability, given to erratic or even perverse changeableness.” Most probably, you’re describing yourself here. We are David’s fans. We are distributed among different age groups (young and old), males and females and with different educational achievements (high school, college, master’s and maybe even Ph’D’s).”

You might want to read Stephen King's book on writing, Amy. One huge requirement is sensitivity. You show a severe lack of this with your comments. I realize you probably have an agenda -- a fan of Cooks, perhaps? But in making this short-sighted commentary, you not only make yourself, but your Idol, look bad.

Shame on you.

No one can ever predict the future. even a journalist like you, Amy. For
you to say negative things about this young lad is unprofessional. You
only see him on the AI twice a week and based your prediction on that. Does it ever occur to you that he have a vocal coach who knows more about music than you. The fact is my admiration to this young man keeps growing week after week. He not only goes to idol photoshoots, rehearsal, doing commercials for FORD with the rest of the competitors. He also goes to school 3 hours a day because he's 17! and he still takes these challenges like a man.
He embodied the idea of an AI. He is an inspirations to many ppl including
to fans around the world. Whatever is the outcome of this competition, I
can assure you this special person will continue to amaze ppl.

David Archuleta has an amazing voice and artists like Natasha B already wanting to write for him. He will have a long successful career I am certain. He is humble, personable AND gorgeous. With the millions of fans he has touched with his performances and with the joy he's given so many I would say he has begun to succeed already.

I disagree.

I truly doubt David A. will fade into oblivion like you are predicting. He's an amazing talent anybody would be stupid to not follow. Daughtry was the favorite of his season even though he did not win, so thus Taylor and Katharine lost their appeal. I believe the two David's are this year's favorites. Thus all the others may be at risk of disappearing, but I doubt David will.

Some fans are looking for the current, accessible, new star, but not everyone. If so, not just Taylor and Katharine, but all the AI stars of the past would be gone. Yet Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson have won Grammies, Daughtry is highly popular, and so on. I believe David will be huge just like Kelly and Carrie. And he hasn't just impressed his fans, he has won over Natasha Bedingfield, Kelly Clarkson, and more.
David A. is big. David A. is huge. David Archuleta is not just now, but the future as well.

Yes, I'm an 18-year-old girl, but that does not mean I'll just move on to the next "it" thing.

I love David Archuleta and will be a loyal fan of his to the end.

You need to give his fanbase more credit.

Type of music

@ 7:26 pm 05/05/08 by Idolfan
While watching Idol each week I keep wondering exactly what type of music the powers that be will expect David A. to create if winning American Idol. Exactly what type of music do people see David singing that will appeal to the younger crowd. Or, for that matter the older crowd AND the younger crowd. What type of singer currently makes the type of music like he does that appeals to the younger generation not because he's cute, but because they'd like to have their music on their IPods? I think that David sings beautifully, but in the end the CD will not be what your typical teen will purchase. Will an older person buy it? Do they buy CD's now? I don't know the deomgraphics regarding that information. In addition, he was very good on Star Search when he won at age 12. How come he never got a recording contract aftet that exposure?

Amy,
You are not the brightest bulb are ya? David Archuleta is far more than a fad and the record exec's see it! He is and will continue to be a phenomenom and I cannot wait until I can drop by and let you know how wrong you are. We are watching a legend be born. The others weren't even in that category.

Little Archie

@ 9:35 am 05/06/08 by WhoIstheWorst?
How can folks think that 5'3" kid on Idol is goodlooking? He dresses like Forrest Gump's little bro and looks like he's 12. Regarding singing talent, sure he's had moments, but seriously, everything he sings sounds the same. I just don't get him.

Regarding Taylor Hicks, he's doing the charity gala things these days and heading for a cruise ship near you from what I understand. That said, the producers of Idol wanked him over big time.

David Archuleta is creepy, dorky little boy. I can't wait until I never have to see his squinty-eyed lizard face again. Yuck.

He's even worse than Clay Aiken, and I didn't think it was possible for anyone to be more awful than Clay.

Ridiculous

@ 6:46 pm 05/07/08 by Jason Damien
I see your point amy cox when you say that david archuleta might not have the staying power needed to sustain his popularity post idol. however, please do not forget that david is only 17 years old and during the top 4 performance paula praised him for taking in every comment and advice that the stars and the judges has given him and grown to be "seasoned". if he has the passion for music and the heart to learn as much as he did in the past few months based on the people that he came in contact with thru idol alone, imagine if he was exposed to a whole world of celebrities. he would learn and grow to be the legend that everyone expects him to be. the difference again with him and the disney stars which people often compare him to is that disney stars, they do not appeal to adults.which is why after they grow up they loose msot of it. only a chosen few such as hillary huff or lindsay lohan has managed to crossover to the whole entertainment business. however, even before anything david archuleta has already won over millions of adult viewers and listeners at home. alone based on the songs that he has chosen in AI and the younger audiences love him because of the way he looks and his persona. so amy cox..sorry but i believe that you are wrong..

World Idol 2008

@ 6:56 am 05/27/08 by Jeanne
I am so sick of people bashing David Archuleta, and in the end he will prove all of you wrong. It is quite obvious that David has not only captured the hearts of America of EVERY age. I have read things from young girls, moms and grandparents. I recently read that Archuleta is the current WORLD IDOL with the percentage from the US and abroad. He will make it big with the right management. It is his for the taking. After all, it was reported just yesterday that he was given 7 offers and Jive has now picked him up. Smart move on their part since they will do very well if they do him right. After all we all know that the American Idol Producers and Judges picked their winner way before the Finals. Cowell picked Cook on every talk show that he was on before the finals and so did Paula. The only judge that stood his ground with Archuleta was Randy. Archuleta will soar among the others from Idol that have fallen. Just remember this, "Those who cast the votes decide NOTHING. Those who count the votes decide EVERYTHING". As said it may seem but the votes really don't count in the long run. David is a winner to many of us and I hope he proves all the negative writers wrong!

The problem with DA fans is that they are not familiar with the word ACCEPTANCE and keeps on bashing DCs LANDSLIDE win. And yeah, DAs inflexibility made his fans jump over the fence. Why don't you just acept the fact that America wanted a rockstar this time, a more versatile one, not another limited idol who keeps on doing the same things time and again.

And I pretty much agree with the Taylor Hicks phenomenon repeating itself in this case. Well, Taylor Hicks' career isn't at the cliff, he'll be working with Grease. But still, he's one of the worst idols in history.

I couldn't disagree with you more

Amy, your aim (pun intended) couldn't be more off on David Archuleta. Nothing's for certain, of course, but if "Archie" continues to grow as an artist he could be something special. He's got quite a unique voice and an artist's sense already, but now he'll have to work on his stage presence and find the right material. Personally I think we saw a hint of things-to-come when David sang "Apology" with One Republic. Now THAT was one thrilling performance, in my estimation. One final point: in today's throwaway world, in which Andy Warhol envisioned everyone having their "fifteen-minutes of fame," it may be that David Archuleta, and David Cook, might find their fame and fortunes short-lived; but both have shined as artists in front of millions this year, and my bet is both young men will do just fine in their go-forward careers, no matter how long lasting, and I wish them nothing but success.
