Miley Cyrus To Publish Memoir: Is This Premature?
Miley Cyrus, the Disney Channel’s Hannah Montana star, is set to publish a memoir of her life. The publishing date has already been planned for the spring of 2009. At 15, Miley may seem a bit young to be already publishing her life story, but her experiences are beyond your average 15-year-old. Is now, at the height of her young career, the best time to publish?Critics have noted that Miley’s memoir might be ghost-written. But having a book ghost-written is not a reflection on her age or talent--many celebrities have ghost-writers write their memoirs. Any freelance writer knows this. Celebrities know this. It may be news to a few, but is not news to many.
The bigger issue is whether this is too early for this kind of book. Miley Cyrus is only 15 years old. Yes, she has been in the business for a while now, but would it be better to wait until she is older to publish a memoir?
Viewing this from a cold-hard-cash standpoint, publishing a Miley Ray Cyrus memoir right now, when she is still so popular, is a smart move by any publisher. A Miley Cyrus memoir is sure to climb high on the book sale's charts. But speaking in terms of Miley's career, critics may argue that this book is a little premature.
If the adults in her life guide things well, her career could span well into adulthood. There is no doubt Miley is talented as a singer and she knows how to woo an audience. But it is easy to see how, if she is overexposed through too much publicity (and there really is such a thing), she may later fall pray to the ex-child-star syndrome and disappear once she is older and loses her preteen audience.
On the other hand, this memoir may push her career forward by giving fans a deeper look into her life and real personality. It is difficult to tell at this stage what impact this memoir will have on her future career.
Miley Cyrus has stated that the book will focus on her good relationship with her mother and her family in general. The young star has led a unique life and it is reasonable to assume she should publish a memoir at some point. It remains to be seen whether or not right now is the best time for a Miley Cyrus memoir.
