Review of Popular Freelance Sites
Freelance sites provide excellent opportunities for employers to hire highly skilled individuals as well as for professionals who are willing to sell their services. There are so many categories in which an employer or a buyer can post their project and receive bids from hundreds of freelancers within 24 hours to do the job at a certain price.
If you search for freelance sites on Google you will come across thousands of results. However, only a handful of these sites are really popular among people from all regions of the world. In this article I will list down some of the most well-liked freelance sites. I can narrate my own experience of working on a couple of these sites and I hope this review will prove to be beneficial for a lot of people out there.
1. Rentacoder.com: Based in the USA, this site provided me with my first-ever freelance project. There are categories ranging from programming languages to data entry and multimedia projects. Registration is free but they deduct 15% amount as their commission from the money you get by completing a project with a buyer. All in all, I like this site and have a few clients there who give me projects on a regular basis.
2. Guru.com: I have little experience of working with Guru but this is one of the largest freelance sites with more than 100,000 active coder profiles. You can either register with basic membership which is free of cost or become a subscribing member by paying a monthly fee. Additional categories like fashion, legal, business coaching, and painting are also available at this site which might be of interest to some people out there. Guru is also based in the USA.
3. Elance.com: Elance is again one of the largest and well-liked freelance sites out there. It was launched in 1998 and therefore has more registered users than Rentacoder and Guru. Elance charges some monthly fee for coders to place their bids. However, you do get 3 connects each month which you can use to place bids and if you get lucky you can land a project without paying any extra fee. If you want additional connects, you can buy them from Elance.
4. Scriptlance.com: Based in Canada, this site is popular among professionals providing web development services. It works like Rentacoder, you dont have to pay to get registered but once you complete a project you have to give some amount as commission to the site owners.
5. Allfreelancework.com: There are many categories listed on this site including finance, web development, marketing, multimedia and many others. It has a wide range of articles and other resources available for beginners to learn the tactics of freelancing. I recommend this site to beginners because there are easy projects listed here like data entry and transcription jobs.
