Bluetooth Technology

Bluetooth is an excellent wireless communication technology. For our daily necessity we are to use various devices and these devices are needed to connect over wire. It is our old tradition to connect the keyboard, mouse, mobile phone, printer etc with the computer with wire. Bluetooth adapters can be used to communicate among the devices. As Bluetooth uses radio wave to send and receive data we can reduce the number of connectors and cable by using Bluetooth. Bluetooth works in a short range (10 m) in 2.4 GHz. Its range could have been increased but it is designed for low power consumption i.e. for those devices which are powered by batteries like cell phone. So it is designed to work within a short range.

A Bluetooth device uses a microchip and uses radio transmission to send and receive data. Now a day Bluetooth is used for various purposes. Some communication technologies are only able to transmit and receive data while some only receive and transmit voice. But Bluetooth can do the both. A lot of Bluetooth enabled devices can be found on the market.

Ericssion invented the Bluetooth. It was named after a Danish king Harold Blaatand II, his nickname was Bluetooth. Bluetooth works using some layers i.e. radio unit (physical layer), Baseband layer, Link Manager Protocol (LMP), link control, application layer etc. The radio unit controls the transmission of data via radio frequency on the air. Lower level encryption is done in the baseband layer; LMP does the work of link setup, authentication and configuration. The Bluetooth Special Interest Group or SIG is working to promote and define the Bluetooth specification so that it would be publicly available. The Bluetooth SIG was founded by Ericsson, Intel, IBM, Toshiba and Nokia. But now it has over 2000 members. For short distance communication Bluetooth is getting popular day by day. Although the Bluetooth technology is assembled within a 9mm X 9mm complex microchip, it is far popular because it is easy and secure to use.
