When The Red Burning Star Will Eat The Earth

We all love our planet earth. Till date we have no signs or proof of existence of life except on our planet. Every human being exploits the resources that this beautiful planet provides, in some way or the other. Some even go to the extent of its abuse.

Scientists have now predicted that our beautiful planet is going to be eaten up by the mighty red star of our solar system i.e. The Sun. The thought of our place to live coming to an end is terrifying, isn't it? But, the scientists at the University of Sussex, England have predicted that the Sun would expand further and push earth farther into the outer space. However, the pushing would not be much and ultimately our planet would be snagged by the outer atmosphere of the Sun and gradually plunge it into the fiery stellar furnace. Explaining this further, Robert Smith - Astronomer University of Sussex says, "The drag caused by this low-density gas is enough to cause the Earth to drift inwards, and finally to be captured and vaporized by the sun".

The scientists have also predicted the timescale during which this would happen. According to them, its 7.6 billion years from now. This may be a bit comforting news for some of us, because 7.6 billion years is a long time. However, there is another side of the aspect. Scientists add that the life on our dear planet may cease to exist way before that - maybe a billion years from now. And this seems logical since, while the Sun has 7.6 billion years to fully eat up the planet earth, the impact of its heat may become unbearable for the life factors in coming billion years and it may simply stop to exist.

When asked if there is any way out for our future descendants to save themselves from this, Smith refers to a recent study of University of California, Santa Cruz, which proposes to tame an asteroid and swing by the earth every few thousand years. This would help to slowly nudge the planet earth into higher solar orbit, enough to outpace the sun's own outward growth. Further explaining this, Smith Says, "This sounds like science fiction, but it seems that the energy requirements are just about possible and the technology could be developed over the next few centuries."

But thats the story of the future generations to come. The question is do we have any responsibility towards our planet? Yes, we do have. And if our generation can't do anything to save the earth being eaten up by the Sun, at this point of time, we can at least start respecting it by not abusing or over exploiting the valuable resources that it provides us.

Yes, when I was still studying we were told that such occurrence is very very possible. But come to think of it, at the rate that man is burning fossil fuels, the earth's ozone layer is bound to collapse in a hundred or two hundred years. Is a burning by the sun billion years still relevant to us if the earth's already dead billions of years before that?

I guess that man's own intelligence may prove to be the maker of his doom. Why? Who invented vehicles anyway? Yes, these things help us a lot but these things will also cause our earth to die prematurely.

Don't get me wrong, I like your article. It is very well written and informative ;O) I was just having my say on earth issues ;O)

Good job!
