Can Lindsay Lohan Turn Her Life - And Career - Around?

Let’s be honest. Nearly everyone on this planet fell in love with the freckled-face little girl who played adorable twins in that Disney movie. She was cute, smart and bubbly – everything we imagined a bright and sunny perfect little girl should be. No one in his (or her) right mind could have thought that the little girl who charmed her way into our hearts would end up a train wreck (not quite as stress-inducing as the Britney Spears Horror Show, but a train wreck nonetheless).

I have to confess I still have a soft spot left in my heart for young Miss Lohan. After all, unlike the other divas of the apocalypse (meaning Paris Hilton and the aforementioned Ms. Spears), Lindsay actually has talent and could easily tackle difficult, emotional roles. Before her completely losing control of her partying, Lindsay had already progressed from tween movies to serious films such as “A Prairie Home Companion”, “Bobby” and “Georgia Rule”. Highly respected actress Meryl Streep even noted her acting ability, and critic Peter Travers gave her thumbs up for her beautiful performance.

So what happened? For most, Lindsay Lohan seems like the quintessential young girl who got caught up in the Hollywood cycle. It’s a scene we’ve all witnessed before. Young girl rises to fame, joins the Hollywood bandwagon, gets chewed up and spit out by the world of show business. It’s a vicious business. Some blame it on her parents, some blame it on her handlers and some just laugh it off as another dumb bimbo getting her just desserts.

But I haven’t quite given up on the talented Ms. Lohan yet. Sure, her rehab stint seems to have failed big time (reports show her drinking in some celebrity hotspot yet again) and she can’t quite get herself and her career out of the gather. Her last movie, “I Know Who Killed Me” tanked at the box office and earned her two (count ‘em) Razzies this year. Honestly, her decision to pose semi-nude a la Marilyn Monroe for New York Magazine seems a little too desperate.

Frankly, she doesn’t seem too successful in her attempts to regain her career and rescue her flailing public image. Still, we have to give the girl props. It’s probably not easy being Lindsay Lohan, what with the dysfunctional family and temptations of stardom. I’m hoping she’ll be a Robert Downey Jr. of sorts, who has since gotten himself out of the gutter and went on to be a respected actor. Lindsay’s young, let’s give the girl a little more time.
