Effect of Divorce: Poll Shows Only 25% Receiving Child Support and Alimony

A recent poll conducted by GFK Roper and commissioned by Divorce360.com found that twenty four percent of Americans who are divorced are supposed to receive child support but only a handful are receiving all of it.

According to the GFK Roper Poll, only twenty five percent of those supposed to be receiving alimony got the entire amount, while majority, almost twenty-nine percent are not receiving any amount at all and seventeen percent only receives a portion of the amount they are supposed to receive.

What is also interesting is that fourteen percent of those entitled to child support or alimony has given up in trying to claim it and only six percent are fighting for their rights.

The result of the poll has shocked Marisa Porto, editor of Divorce360.com. In their press release, Porto said that she assumed most people pay their child support and she was shocked to see the number of people who are not receiving any support. Porto hopes that this poll would raise people's awareness regarding this issue.

The poll also found out that divorce changes the person and that thirty-six percent of the Americans surveyed reported losing weight after their divorce, and thirty-three percent got a new job, and twenty percent have changed their appearance or went back to school. Divorce also led to new purchases with thirty percent of those surveyed stating that they bought a car, twenty-eight percent bough furniture, twenty-five percent bought a new house or apartment, while twenty-two percent went on a vacation. Of those surveyed who answered they changed their job, forty-one percent were women and twenty-five percent were men, while those who changed their appearance, twenty-five percent were women while thirteen percent were men. Twenty seven percent of those surveyed who said that they were going back to school were women while eleven percent were men.

This is not the only study conducted on divorce. While divorce may cause significant change on the personality of the individual, a study conducted by the Michigan State University last December of 2007 reports that Divorce also causes global warming. Michigan State University said that when a woman or man moves to a new place after divorce, more land housing is needed and the expenditure on utilities increases. The study also revealed that there is a sixty one percent increase of the number of rooms in the household of divorced couples resulting in a 46 percent increase in electricity and a fifty six percent increase in water, thus resulting in more waste.

With the divorce rate in America continually increasing, expect more study and polls to be conducted. SOURCE:

I'm not shocked by this study at all. It's a sad but very true fact and I'm glad that divorce360 commissioned this poll.

We have had women on our site (www.firstwivesworld.com) blogging out this very subject for some time now. They talk about, in detail, how the men change after a divorce and how they don't want to support their children in any way. Go out our website and read the stories, they will break your heart.

Go to www.firstwivesworld.com and do a search for "child support" in the upper right hand corner. You will come across pages of blogs and articles on the subject.

Thanks again for making this information available to the world.

All my very best,
Antoniofww
