New Predictions for Britney Spears: She's Getting Help. Now what?

Now that Britney Spears is getting help, will her life settle down? Fans and enemies alike have gotten used to Britney Spears making the headlines in a less than positive way. Will this change?

In the past year, Britney Spears’ fans and enemies watched as Britney’s life spiraled downward. She went to rehab and then left rehab within 24 hours. She shaved her head, had the usual numerous clashes with the paparazzi, ran over a photographer’s foot, then allegedly ran over another’s foot, exposed herself to the cameras (in a very literal sense) and temporarily lost custody of her two children. Between the court battles with ex-husband Kevin Federline and the paparazzi incidences, 2007 was simply not a good year for Britney Spears.

2008 started off not very promising for the pop star either. Already this year, Britney Spears lost the right to visit her children, was hospitalized once for psychiatric evaluation, and had several run-ins with the paparazzi. Finally, her family seemed to have little choice but to intervene and place her in a facility where she can get help.

Earlier, Dr. Lillian Glass, a Beverly Hills Psychologist, reportedly had said that Britney Spears would be dead in six months if she did not get the help she needs. Glass believes Britney Spears suffers from the mood disorder, cyclothemia, which is characterized by rapid mood swings. Other sources claim Britney suffers from Bi-polar. Whatever is/was causing Britney Spears' wild mood swings and odd behavior, time will tell if she can turn her career, and her life, around after this stint under psychologists' supervision.

Most people would not wish a terrible fate for Britney Spears. However, the way things were going for her, it seemed likely that a tragedy was in store if she didn't get help. It was clear that something was wrong with her.

Her frequent shopping trips, habitual visits to gas station restrooms, and the scuffles with the paparazzi after her first release from the hospital indicated she was still having some bizarre "episodes". Her behavior was utterly impulsive and out of control.

She solicited attention while, at the same time, she derided the people who were giving her that attention. "You want a piece of me?" her song on the album “Blackout” asks. The answer: Yes, Britney. You know they do. But you seemed more than willing to give the paparazzi more than just a piece.

Britney Spears' life might not have gotten as bad as Dr. Glass and other psychologists predicted--but things certainly would not have gotten any better for Ms. Spears if her family had not intervened on her behalf.

Will Britney be able to turn her life around now? That is difficult to predict. She has a new chance, but whether she takes advantage of that chance is up to her.
