Rent Movies from Apple iTunes

Most people already know and love iTunes. I love them for the ability to make finding podcasts simple as pie. They already have so many members from the popular ipods that require you to download Apple's iTunes.

Renting movies from Apple's iTunes is an area that I think would be relatively easy for Apple to get into. Apple iTunes already sells movies from Walt Disney and Viacom, but renting would be a new choice.

Along with renting, Fox wants an option for the users to buy and download the movies like what they are already doing with the previously mentioned.

How this would work is an iTunes user would download a digital copy of a Fox movie, and then they would have a limited duration to view the movie which they downloaded.

I am still a noob with iTunes, but I would think the movies would be downloaded from Apple servers and not the Fox servers. Not that that has anything to do with anything, but I think Apple would be a better host for the downloads because Fox would probably mess everything up. I can only imagine the troubleshooting support that will be needed for this idea to get up and running.

Not to mention the support, but the amazing potential for hackers! I would think that when this option get let out of the gates, there are going to be a number of 'googlers' searching, rent itune movies hack.

It would be an interesting option and I am sure that there is a market for it since Netflix is offering it right now. I just can't get over the fact that people watch movies on their ipods though.

I think it would be cool at first, but after awhile I think it would just give me a headache. Then again, I don't own an ipod, so I am probably speaking from a root of jealousy.

Apple is not thinking only about ipod rentals. I already download movies to my macbook from itunes and play them on my tv using cables, and of course, steve jobs' ultimate desire with rentals is to own the living room with the so far underachieving apple tv.

I didn't mean that this feature was specifically for the Ipod, but I know some people that watch movies on their Ipods just because they think its cool, lol.
