Top 10 Classic Christmas Movies

I am finally living in a decent place that has a gas fireplace.  Above the fireplace sits my television.  My wife and I just recently put up our Christmas trees in the corner of the room, placed in a position that is still in view while watching the TV.  The other day I was thinking, "The only thing that could make this any better, would be to put in a great Christmas movie with the fireplace turned on."

Unfortunately, I do not own any of the classics that I love. So we were forced to watch ABC Family, because they were playing the "Santa Claus" with Tim Allen. Sad to say this movie did not make the list. ;)  I know most of your are not reading this article for it's witty banter, so let me proceEd to my top 10 classic Christmas movies of all time!

Number 10: Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer
Yes, this is on everyones top list of Christmas movie favorites, and not the new CGI Rudulph movies out there.  I am talking about the one where everything was obviously made out of play dough!

Number 9: Frosty The Snowman
I'm sure you know the song, and I'm sure you've seen this movie.  If you have been living under a rock, obviously from the title, Frosty is a snowman. He came to life by magic, and and is running from and evil musician that is trying to steal the magic that brought Frosty to life.  Also if you didn't know, musicians are known for this.

Number 8: A Charlie Brown Christmas
If you look at who wrote this article, myself, Douglas Brown, you should understand that anything remotely related to Charlie Brown would be one of my favorites. This movie gets a bit more biblical with many references to the true meaning of Christmas.

Number 7: How The Grinch Stole Christmas
This movie is just another "How-To" guide to steal Christmas, however the best one that has been published. The Grinch is a green man that lives in the mountains outside of Whoville.  I think it's in Michigan... anywho.  The Grinch hates Christmas and wants to ruin it for all the other Whovillians, so he decides to steal all food, and toys that the Whovillians have boughten, and afterall, that is what Christmas is about right?

Number 6: Home Alone
I know a lot of you might not think that this is a classic, or maybe it shouldn't rank this high on the list, but come on, give the little guy a break, he was home alone on Christmas! This movie is about a kid that is apart of a large, chaotic family.  While the family was getting ready to go on Christmas vacation, they left him behind, and he needs to stay and fend for himself in a very large home.

Number 5: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
If you don't like this movie and your American, well then, you can't be American. It's about a family that gets into hillarious accidents and other difficulties while celebrating the Chistmas Holidays.

Number 4: A Miracle on 34th Street
This movies brings up the controversial topic, "Is there a real Santa Claus?"  It is about a man who claims to be Kris Kringle, or more widely familiar as Santa Claus, but no one believes him. So he spends his entire time trying to prove his identity. This movie can be seen every year on television... if you own one.

Number 3: It's A Wonderful Life
This movie really brings it home.  It's about a man that feels like he is living in dispair and is of no virtual use to anyone around him.  He thinks that everyone around him would be better off if he just didn't exist.  Then an angel appears to him, and shows what he has contributed to the people around him and what they would be like if he wasn't apart of their lives.

Number 2: A Christmas Carol
This movies is based off the book, "A Christmas Carol", written by the big-time author, Charles Dickens.  I think everyone knows this story of the old bitter man that believed in making money took precedence over family and friends during Christmas season. This movie coined the phrase, "Bah Humbug." He eventually learns his lesson when three ghosts pay him a visit and point out the error of his ways.  If you learn anything from this movie, it's that your family should be the most important thing in your life, not just during Christmas season, but every season.

And finally what you all have been waiting for!

Number 1: A Christmas Story
This movie gets the number one spot, because everytime I hear some moron sticking his tongue to metal pole in the middle of winter, I think of this movie.  It's is about a kid living out his daily routine with a Christmas themed backdrop. The only thing he wants for Christmas, his parents disapprove of. Your just going to have to watch the movie to figure that one out if you don't already know.

All the movies mentioned above are all great family entertainment, full of good lessons and morals. So if you guys can manage to get your families together, you are going to need at least one of these Christmas classics to bring in the holday spirit.

Great selection of movies. I probably watch The Christmas Story at least 3 times every December. Christmas just doesn't feel the same without that and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

You have to admit, National Lampoon's Christmas VK is what arguably MADE Chevy Chase the Icon he is today.

I completely disagree with the number one spot. I think that it should go to the British Classic, Love Actually. What a leg-end.

Not a bad list I agree with most of them but come on you have to rank White Christmas. It's the classic of all classics.

National Lampoon's is way too low. Home Alone should also be moved up. Easily top two. Bad Santa, while not old, is definitely a must see around the holidays. By the way, no way is Whoville in Michigan. Way to cheery up there before the Grinch arrives. i think the Grinch is a Michigan fan carrying his depression from another loss to Ohio State into the holiday season.

Why do you always have to drag that into everything, lol. Bad Santa is too new for me to consider it a classic, nor isn't exactly wholesome family entertainment.
