"w00t" Awarded Word of the Year by Merriam-Webster

Anyone who has ever played an online game before knows the meaning of w00t.  Webster's definition of the word is a bit vague though.  If I was fighting another playing in an online game, and they killed me, and then proceded with the response, 'w00t', it shows cockiness more than celebration.

Rather than "yay", I think it more closely resembles "ha".  Either way I think I am starting to get a bit off topic.

I assume you are reading this article to learn why Webster chose that word.  Well, to be honest, I don't think anyone even knows.  Maybe they are trying to predict where the current culture is heading.  I don't think that they are heading in the right direction however.

Gaming has obviously made a huge impact on the entertainment industry within the last few years, but my wife, nor my parents, sisters, and most of my friends know the meaning of the word, 'w00t'.  That is just in my circle, who know about hte rest of the world.

The word that came in a close second was "facebook'; meaning to friend someone the social networking giant, Facebook.  I know a lot more people that can relate with this word rather than the prior, but oh well.
