Paris "Horrified" Her Puppy Could Have Come From Puppy Mill

Pets of Bel Air, a popular pet store with the stars for over 9 years, has recently let their certificate of veterinary inspection expire. This has prompted the Humane Society of the United States to make allegations that they obtain and profit from puppies coming from puppy mills. This is a popular shopping spot for Britney Spears and more recently, Paris Hilton. Paris has recently been seen jet-setting around with her cute new puppy, a buff color Pomeranian she's named, Marilyn Monroe. This, only months after she received a new Yorkshire Terrier puppy as a getting out of jail present from her family. She was seen everywhere with that puppy. One wonders what happens with cute puppies once they get replaced by newer, cuter puppies in the world of Paris.

The demand for cute and very small puppies has risen in recent years. Some breeders even charging in excess of $5,000 for a Yorkshire Terrier puppy. Some could argue that the use of small and cute animals as fashionable accessories by certain young starlets has ultimately created this demand and ultimately, abuse. Because of this superficial demand for cute little dogs, the American Human Society and other watchdog agencies are keeping a close eye on pet shops who profit from this trend.

Although there are stars who are photographed taking their mixed breed dogs they've adopted from shelters to the park for a stroll, it's the media-savvy ones like Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton who are spurring the demand for cute expensive trophy pets. Where there's a demand, there's supply. And this is what's got the American Human Society all hyper-vigilant. When they know stars like Paris, change puppies seasonally, they know it creates a terrible copycat trend.

In an open letter to their customers, Pets of Bel Air claimed that the expiration of their certificate was just an internal error. They wrote, "The permit fee went inadvertently unpaid due to a clerical error."
