Democrats Shut Down Stephan Colbert's Presidential Campaign

South Carolina, where Stephen Colbert had planned to run for president in both the Republican and Democratic Primaries, voted to keep Mr. Colbert of the voting ballot by their executive committee.  Although he paid the $2,500 filing fee, the committee feels that he is not taking the campaign seriously enough to be considered a candidate.

This news story caught my eye when I saw it on the news this morning. If you don't know who Stephen Colbert is, he was made famous on Comedy Central's, "The Daily Show".  He left the Daily Show, to start his own, "The Colbert Report."  He is now recognized as a famous comedian who pokes fun at current events, and most noted for making fun of political officials.

Cobert, believe it or not, holds a strong support from the younger community.  This support was generated by a buzz that has been flowing through Facebook.  I don't suppose it is a shock to anyone reading this that young Americans are more interested to hear what Cobert has to say than any other political candidate. This is my own personal opinion, but every other candidate seems exactly the same to me.  All of them have the same personality on different bodies. It would be a breath of fresh air to get a candidate in the race the people liked. I would even go as far to say that the voter turn-out for young Americans would reach record numbers if he was in the race!

Who was on this executive committee in South Carolina? I think I can safely assume that they have the same personalities as Mrs. Clinton. No one is open to new ideas. It seems like they use the, if it ain't broke don't fix it, mentality. Things are broke though.  America does need a change.  One change that I would like to see is gas prices to drop, but I will be happy just to see the United States appear to be united for a moment!  The only people who seem to disagree with him starting a campaign to the oval office are political figures.

It is too bad to see South Carolina not respect him as a candidate, and I can only hope that this does not discourage Colbert from not perusing this any longer. I am already pledging my vote to Colbert! I don't even care about his stand on important issues. The most important issue here is our ancestors fought for our right to overthrow the government peacefully every four years.  Everyone is complaining about our president now, well if you take a look, everyone in the running to be the future president is the exact same! It's time we get someone who we can relate to! Vote Stephen Colbert, Presidential Candidate '08!

It has been brought to my attention that I spelled Stephen wrong in the title as Stephan. The correct spelling of his name is Stephen Colbert. I apologize. If you notice any other typos or grammatical error, please don't hesitate to bring them to my attention.

He did not take the whole thing serious, did he? I mean
it was obvious that he was not quite sure that he would
make it through even in his home state...

Well,.. better have a good laugh and watch this..

He did pay the $2,500 filing fee, but I'm sure that isn't really anything to him. To a certain degree, I do agree with you Duke. I also think though that if he did see a lot of support, he would go after it.

Dude, I like Colbert as much as the next person, but I think it's pretty sad that you say you would ACTUALLY consider wasting your vote on a comedian and that you "don't care about his stand on the issues." If that's really how young people feel about the vote, I'm worried about the future of this country.

Yes, the candidates in the field leave something to be desired, but Colbert isn't the answer. He's hilarious, but he's not going to come up with a brilliant economic plan or a troop withdrawal strategy. He's not going to figure out how to save social security or provide healthcare to impoverished persons in America. THAT should be what we use our votes for, we shouldn't waste our votes on a comedian.

I love Colbert, I love Stewart. I'd rather have them on TV to satirize politics than have them actually in the process.

And if you honestly think that the candidates running for president are the EXACT SAME as George Bush, you really need to become a tiny bit more educated on the field.

Well, I guess that is why the voting process was created, to express everyones different stands.

To Rebecca: You think I would be wasting my vote? I think you would be wasting your vote. DO you think the current candidates are going to come up with a brilliant economic plan or a troop withdrawal strategy, figure out how to save social security or provide health care to impoverished persons in America? I don't.

Who is to say a comedian can't be president? So now, should we be telling our kids that they can be anything that want to be, BUT president. If you want to be president, you need to come from a "well-off" family with a political background. Well, I like to think that the presidency can be up for grabs by anyone in America who think they can make a positive difference. I don't know, I just think he should be allowed to run, and the PEOPLE vote for the best candidate.

Change is good

I'd rather see a comedian as the next president than our current options of lawyers and preachers. Both of those groups have a tendency of talking to people to convince them of lies. Is that really who you want as your next president?
